My parents don't like guns so I never hunted, but so many people did that there would be literally hundreds of kids absent from school on the first day of deer season. We also had people who would invite us over to eat their hunting kills- mostly deer but occasionally turkey or pheasant.

And that was in the 90's- not that long ago.

No problem. Nothing is better than a deer in the death quiver.

Besides, the old lady thinks you're cute.

I grew up in Long Island in the 60s & I don't remember anyone who hunted or had guns in their homes. I've seen deer on car rooftops on LI highways, so I know there are hunters there, I just never met one.

    Do not on any anymore.

    Have fired a 16g and a 12 g reminton shotgun.
Shot skeet with a .250 rifle.
Fired a .44 magnum and a .357 at my buddy's cabin. He was from from East Aurora, and was an officer in the Marines. Those were his guns.

Shot my father in law's .38, .22, and .45 automatic (shot well enough to qualify)

Re: Do you own of have you ever shot a gun?

No to everything but the shooting part. When I was a kid, like 10 years old, my dad took my older brother and I out "woodchuck hunting." We never saw a woodchuck, but my dad let each of us shoot the rifle once. We aimed at a big ol' ant hill. I missed it, but I remember clipping off a grass stalk that bore a seed head. The rifle was a German Mauser that dad had lifted off a dead soldier during WW2. I don't recall anything about the model or caliber. Obviously, having been used in WW2 it was more than a .22.

I favor tightening up gun control regulations but I believe the intent or our founding fathers was that we always have the right to have a weapon for self protection if we so choose, and don't forfeit that right by engaging in criminal activity. I have no desire to own a weapon myself.
I've made up my mind. Don't confuse me with the facts.

I'm the most reasonable poster here. If you don't agree, I'll be forced to have a hissy fit.

I've never owned a gun before and probably never will. I don't get into hunting and never will. I've shot a gun before at target practice but I couldn't tell you if my life depended on it what kind of a gun it was.

I have killed mammals with guns.
Same, but no shoulder-fired missles for me.... just the silly one in basic training that shot the roman candle crap. I quallified on the MK19 and that was my favorite weapon by far. Accurate as all hell and devastating.

    I own no weapons anymore.
I used to hunt and had an Ithaca 16 and a Mossburg 20/10.
    No skeet
    Shot targets
Army stuff, but never really for fun once I got to be 16 or so.

And for the record, I am for expanding gun control.
I remember that one fateful day when Coach took me aside. I knew what was coming. "You don't have to tell me," I said. "I'm off the team, aren't I?"
"Well," said Coach, "you never were really ON the team. You made that uniform you're wearing out of rags and towels, and your helmet is a toy space helmet.
You show up at practice and then either steal the ball and make us chase you to get it back, or you try to tackle people at inappropriate times."
    It was all
true what he was saying. And yet, I thought something is brewing inside the head of this Coach.
He sees something in me, some kind of raw talent that he can
mold. But that's when I felt the handcuffs go on.

I think anyone that wants to offer an opinion, especially pundits and politicians, should be required to go to a target range with multiple caliber weapons, including an AR-15 and an AK-47 and log 8 hours of training time with an instructor. That way they will be speaking from an informed position instead of relying on dubious journalists and "Lethal Weapon" for their information.

    But that's just me.

That will certainly reduce the numbers of people who can speak about the issue to about 11.

I've been thinking about purchasing a shotgun. Only fired a couple shotguns at skeet/targets. Don't really know caliber.

I may actually end up getting a .22 longarm and a .22 air pistol. With the increase in varmints and other incidents over the last 10 years, the wife has indicated she would feel safer with a gun around the house that she can handle.

Shotguns don't have calibers, they have gauges. A 12 guage is the most powerful and also gives the most recoil. Then 16, 20, etc. You can get most models in most gauges. Then you have to decide what kind of action. Single shot is just what it says and generally breech loaded. Then you have the pump, bolt action, and semi automatic. Then you have to choose barrel length. The longer the barrel, the more accurate at further distances, but state laws dictate how shot the barrel can legally be. There are other things like double barrel or over and under which are generally breech loaded. You just have to do some research and see what fits your needs.

I own a dozen and have shot animals.
“About sixty-one percent of the contents of the Koran are found to speak ill of the unbelievers or call for their violent conquest; at best only 2.6 percent of the verses of the Koran are noted to show goodwill toward humanity. About seventy-five percent of Muhammad’s biography (Sira) consists of jihad waged on unbelievers.”

There are a variety of reasons why one would own a gun, obviously. Judging by this statement:

...your gun ownership and marksmanship are clearly tightly attached to your view of your (and apparently others') manhood. That's not to say it's wrong or right. Where you live, people own guns. People hunt. That's your way of life.

But let's try not to judge others, moonie. We have other things that we're using to prop up our manhood and your guns might accidentally shoot it.

    They still make 10 gauges.
