Christmas Traditions

So this is Coastal and I's 3rd Christmas together as husband and wife .. I haven't started any Christmas traditions yet with the kids BUT this will be our FIRST year!

So this year we are doing the RIGHT/LEFT Christmas Story Game

I bought 4 neutral gifts, and each one will be handed a gift but cannot open. I will then read a Christmas Story and every time I say the word RIGHT they will pass the gift to the right, and every time I say the word LEFT they pass the gift to the left. When the story is done which ever gift they have is theirs!

Should be fun!

Depends on who you ask, the wife or the kids

Pickle present = a pickle ornament hidden on the tree Christmas Eve after the kids are in bed. Whoever finds the pickle ornament gets to unwrap the pickle present (after all the others have been), which is usually a board game or a novelty that everybody can have a little fun with.

That sounds like a fun tradition as well!! Seems everyone is a little happy in the end! LOL

Every Christmas Eve is church early (4:30pm) then over to my parents for a Christmas Eve party where all my siblings and significant others exchange gifts. Then Christmas Morning at my In-Laws for a marathon present opening session with a mid breakfast break in the middle.

After the opening of the presents madness is done, the wife and I prepare for our big feast. Every year we pick a different type of food. We've did Italian, Mexican, Germany, French, etc... This year is American ******* it! Porterhouses on the grill!

Our was alway being together for christmas. but this is the 1st without my father. So I am just waiting for this to be over. Start new next year.

Pretty standard routine for the JoeMama family...

Chinese food for dinner. Open one gift each. Fire up a Christmas movie.

Then Christmas morning, when I see all my loot under the tree I scream YES! COMPLETE EXONERATION! NOT GUILTY ON ALL COUNTS!

Santa never sees any of the bad stuff I do. Which is awesome.

We're mostly Irish so the traditions involve a lot of getting drunk and punching relatives. It's great.

Seriously though... We do the pickle gift with my family and m wife and I usually watch the Grinch while we wrap gifts.

But, my one brother is married with two kids and my other brother is, well, lets just say "unreliable." So our Christmases have become different every year to try to accommodate everyone.

Get up around 11am and watch Christmas Story movie and eat some grub and take a nap. Christmas is more of a family event for those with spouses and/or kids.
