I wasn't even referring to that, although I agree that it did seem to glorify torture. No, the dialogue and acting was flat, the players never sold their roles, and the made for tv film Seal Team Six was a much better flick. Also, Argo was great because you could tell the actors were having a good time on set and they were able to sell their characters and I am willing to bet that also received a nice subsidy from the CIA and State Department as well. Pi was a very visually stunning flick. Lincoln was exceptional, did not agree with the title of Lincoln, but it was a damn good film and Jones should have won best supporting actor. Hitchcock was also very underrated and I think Hopkins should have gotten best actor for that one because ****, he had all of Hitchcock's mannerisms down perfectly.

The adoring reviews describe it as an "exhausting police procedural" although I can't for the life of me imagine what the "procedure" was. There was nothing interesting or unique or clever involved in finding him or getting him. Just another dumb movie where style obscures a lack of substance and the only dramatic tension is whether the bureaucrats let American heros be free to be American heros or will they pussy out?

we watched it tonight and it was crap.

slept through 30 minutes of it and guess what... Didn't miss a thing.

I think the director knows something more about film making than others. The scene where the CIA interrogator says, "This is what defeat looks like," is a picture of his face, not of the captured prisoner, not of the destruction. The man doing the torture is what defeat looks like. We the viewers are looking at him and he says 'this' is what defeat looks like.

The ugliness that follows isn't then a glorification but a proof of what failure looks like.

I like it. Subtlety at its best. I can see how it passed right over the average viewer's head.

The director is directing thru the eyes of the evil doer in that scene, and he seen how they are the ones that are defeated , because the movie ended with osama dead, and the fact these savages will be defeated in the end.
