Anyone who has posted in the Spin Zone over the years has probably figured out that I don't have a very high opinion of the Mormon religion (just as many have a low opinion of my evangelical Christian faith). Still, Mormons are generally seen as honest to a fault. It's just just crazy to see this happenning. I hope for his sake he turns out to be a victim of a hoax. It's better to be seen as an honest fool rather thana dishonest fool. It seems highly unlikely that he was not in on it, though. I mean, this was a really elaborate long term hoax, and extremely difficult to pull off without Teo's knowledge, and with no apparent purpose other than to embarrass the guy, if he was not in on it. If he was in on it, Teo looks to have some deep seated psychological problems. That would be a huge red flag for any team considering drafting him.

Mormons honest to a fault, really? Last year we saw one of the most high profile Mormons lying through his teeth every day for the purpose of personal gain. I didn't see any fellow Mormons calling him out for it. Now I'm not going to call out all Mormons as pathological liars just because Mitt Romney is one, but I'm certainly not going to view Mormons as honest to a fault after seeing Romney lie and his campaign say they were not going to let fact checkers influence what they will say.

Mormons honest to a fault, really? Last year we saw one of the most high profile Mormons lying through his teeth every day for the purpose of personal gain. I didn't see any fellow Mormons calling him out for it. Now I'm not going to call out all Mormons as pathological liars just because Mitt Romney is one, but I'm certainly not going to view Mormons as honest to a fault after seeing Romney lie and his campaign say they were not going to let fact checkers influence what they will say.

My take: 50% hoax, 40% predatory opportunist, 10% innocent, dumb kid. Teo is a kid - 20 or so. Being dumb at 20 is nothing new - been so forever. And nothing wrong with that. Time was, society protected the young from the ugliness of the adult world until they learned for themselves, from incremental experience. Not these days.

Now, all over the internet, the tv, the radio, this kid is getting piled on...he's the topic of the day.

That's shameful. Folks ought to leave it alone. Leave him alone.

Why do you "deserve" to know the truth? Do you think you have some sort of claim on a total stranger? Does everybody here or anywhere have to know everything about you and yours if something became hawked by the media? Who do it for the $.
