The Rochester-based Wegmans supermarket chain has one more accolade to add to its trophy wall. 24,203 Consumer Reports readers have just voted Wegmans the top U.S. supermarket chain, in the 2011 annual best and worst supermarkets survey slated for publication in the May, 2012 issue of the national consumer ratings magazine.
The May, 2012 issue of Consumer Reports, on newstands the week of April 8th, features the magazine's annual compilation of the best and worst supermarket chains in the U.S. According to Consumer Reports, Wegmans has been in the top three for the last three survey years. However, in this survey Wegmans earned 88 points out of 100 to edge out 51 other contenders for first place.
Trader Joe's, which operates nearly half its stores in California, earned 86 points and second place. Publix, with outlets mainly in the southeast, earned 85 points and third place.
