He is, most certainly a dumbass, but personally, I think that a person should be able to do whatever the hell he or she wants with their signature, provided it's legal.

Signing helmets hurts no one. Every college athlete should be allowed to make money doing whatever they want to as long as they're not infinging on University copyrights.

These schools, which are already out of control ripoff factories, make hundreds of millions while the athletes make zero. And the vast, vast majority will never have professional contracts.

    The whole system is ************.

No argument there. The fact is he had to know the rules and he did it anyway is what is dumbfounding.

The University can make money off their signatures but they can't. It's their signature on what they do with it should be their business.

These kids are getting the chance to go to college for free that could cost an out of state student $20,000+ a year, counting room and board. Plus they're getting the chance to make it to the NFL, were they will make $Millions, while the average student that goes into debt to get an education will be lucky if he ever sees a 6 figure salary. Add to that, charging someone for your signature is pure greed.

Texas A&M is making a whole hell of a lot more off Manziel than he is from them.

And Manziel's signature is worth money, obviously, or people wouldn't pay for it. Why should he give it away if he doesn't want to?

Of course, if we do it the logical way, we start paying them as the professionals they are at the age of 14 or 15, then all these problems go away

    Re: Johnny Manziel Stupidity

I hope he gets suspended & then he sues. If he went out and provided a service like sweeping floors, the NCAA would have a hard time suspending him. If the NCAA can stop an athlete from making money, outside of playing professional football or signing with an agent to represent his football contract, it's basically breaking the law. If he has a commodity to sell , like his autograph, off the field, the NCAA has no right to stop him from making money. How can the hypocrites in the NCAA let former professional baseball players play college football after they've been professionals & not let a college player earn money providing a service which is different than PLAYING football? Here's another way of thinking it-If one of these former baseball players like Josh Booty had signed baseballs, what right would the NCAA have had to stop them when they signed the baseballs while playing college football when they let them play college football after pocketing big bucks from baseball?

That is pocket change compared to what the school is making off them. Between school, practice and the games they don't have time to work another job. They need money to spend so this is what happens. You can't even accept any type of gift from somebody without it breaking NCAA rules. They want them to be their slaves for the scholarship. Then the scholarship isn't even guaranteed. They can revoke it any year they wish and make them pay for school if they want somebody else on the team instead.

Only a small percentage of the players will make it to the NFL. Even less in basketball. For those who know they're not good enough to make it all the way and is there for the education they are getting a decent deal. For those who are only there to try and play football and make the NFL they are getting hosed.

And technically it's not charging people personally for his signature. It's brokers paying the players to sign stuff that they end up selling to others who wishes to have their autograph. If people wanted your autograph and offered you money for it you would turn it down? I doubt it.

If professional sports and the NCAA wasn't in bed together it would be very easy for somebody to start up a league and get many of the best high school players in the country and pay them some money for it. If they are already considered paid professionals they can't enter the amateur draft though. I'm assuming they could always sign as a rookie free agent afterwards though.

Political correctness ( or cancel culture as it is called today) is a doctrine fostered by a delusional ,illogical minority, and rabidly promoted by MSM which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end.

He'll be the next great CFL QB after he fails in the NFL.

He might be, but IMO he is going down fast with his behavior and might end up nowhere.
