A loss at home to the Oilers? ****.

Oh well, at least they managed two goals in regulation. Baby steps.... baby steps.

Yes now that the mecca of all hockey knowledge is located in Buffalo, the Bruins haven't got a chance.

My thumb is down to the Buffalo Sabres' lust for Connor McDavid. I'm well aware that all 30 NHL teams would not hesitate to smile at the thought of McDavid in their lineup, but most of them would be highly disappointed if that came to pass because they won the draft lottery after finishing in last place. Until or unless the Sabres decide to change the conversation regarding themselves and McDavid by vowing to finish as high as they can, they are to be judged by the comments they've made. Owner Terry Pegula has stated that the way to improve is to do what Pittsburgh did - draft Sidney Crosby with the first pick a year after selecting Evgeni Malkin with the second pick. Well, there are other ways, but I digress. General manager Tim Murray is anxious to see the Sabres lose "properly" if they must lose. "Let's get Connor with honour" would be the rallying cry. The Sabres are probably bad enough to get the most favourable draft odds by trying their best, and so they should say and do everything to suggest that 30th place is not acceptable….even if that is the goal.

And yet, there is nothing to suggest that this is anything but a typical rebuild. It just so happens that a highly touted prospect is going to be drafted

Well I would argue against that. They could have signed better role-players and they didn't. Instead the roster is riddled with no-name losers like Flynn, McCormick, and Deslauriers. The Florida Panthers roster looks stellar compared to the crap the Sabres put out there.

As Sabres fans we've seen plenty of rebuilds. Past Sabres teams have made an effort. This was no effort. I don't ever want to see Flynn, McCormick or Deslauriers and that ilk play again. Their ceiling is the AHL. This roster is full of AHLers and kids that are up here too soon for their own good. It's complete crap.

And, again, Drew Stafford is your leading scorer. THAT is all the proof you need to say this is NOT just a typical rebuild.

This is so clearly an all out dive that it is indefensible. And Pegula admitted it to you with his Penguins analogy. He makes the fine fans in Buffalo put up with epic crap teams for 2 years running to get one guy? He should be run out of town. And yet you all bow at his feet. It's the stupidest thing I have ever witnessed.

How at pegulas feet? I don't even like the guy. I do like murrays method by moving all departing pieces for assets. as far as deslauriers, I like the kid. Works hard and hits like a train, and is young. He could be a great fourth line winger.

No question the Penguins management was setting up the roster and making the penguins as weak as possible during the 83-84 season so they could draft Mario Lemiuex in 1984.. Benching a young goalie who played well in a few starts and playing a aging bum goalie in the minors.. I think Enroth should get more playing time lol

Im not sure how this is any different then other rebuilds except the current bunch is terrible. Moving away old pieces for youth is pretty standard. Not to mention a new GM with a plan, he's building from the bottom up. It's completely necessary.

It's like Spiked said in the football forum. A year of diving I could live with. But at this point the fans need to just stop buying tickets to send Pegula a message that he should already be smart enough to realize and he isn't.

Honestly. The light is at the end of the tunnel. I firmly believe that. But I expect another down year next year before the team takes off. The sabres have the assets to make trades for established players once they get their young pieces lined up.

Who in the hell are the Sabres going to surpass over the next 5 years to make the play-offs?

    Lightening -- no way

    Canadians -- no way

    Bruins -- no way

    Red Wings -- no way

Those are 4 proven, well managed hockey teams that never would consider tanking for 2+ years in order to acquire talent.

I doubt the Sabres surpass the Senators either.

    Perhaps the Panthers and Leafs.

Making the play-offs in this division is no easy task.

Oh yeah? Who's going to be your scorer in 2016?

Living on a prayer is what you're doing.

what makes you think the youth wont develop enough to become assets by then? reinhart? give the kid another year, he will be fine. armia is coming along, grigo coming along, whoever the sabres draft this draft, still have moulson, ennis.

the team right now is really shallow. you give the kids another year, it wont be so shallow.

plus, there is always free agency and trading, which the "no free agents will play in buffalo" meme has been shot down.
