Would You Pay $100 Per Season To Be A, "NFL Fan Referee?"

I think the NFL is missing out on a huge business opportunity.

NFL fans should be able to overrule questionable calls by voting with their phones or computers.

Every NFL fan has experienced the feeling of wanting to take that yellow flag and shove it up a zebras ass, so why not capitalize on the idea and create a new market for it?

If 65% of the NFL Fan Referee public agrees, the call in question should be reversed.

The NFL needs to find news ways to stay interactive with a huge proportion of their fan base that are unable to afford a luxury box or a $3,000 PSL.

More people watch the games than go to them. What better way is there to, "reach out," to the fans that watch their product?

Out of challenges? Every team should be able to use at least 1 NFL Fan Referee challenge per game to potentially overturn a call.

Such a thing would make the NFL more interesting, more fair, and more profitable.

If, "NFL Fan Referees," existed back in 2002 the Raiders would have went to the Super Bowl.

It was a fumble. Tuck rule my ass.

"This NFL Fan Referee Replay Challenge sponsored by_____, alright folks get out your phones or login at NFL.com with your password and tell us what you think about this call from Denver, over to you, Chris."

Home and away team fan refs would not be be able to vote for or against their own team's games, only NFL fans from around the country.

$100 per fan X a conservative estimate of 5 million NFL Fan Referees = half a billion dollars.

Advertisers couldn't touch that rate of return.

Have you been working with Pete Rose for this idea?
True fans want wins, not draft picks.

Re: Would You Pay $100 Per Season To Be A, "NFL Fan Referee?"

I absolutely would and you people would have the time of your lives listening to my calls. But if my number came up, I'd expect my power to be absolute, none of this fan voting crap in my way to be swayed by larger markets challenging my vision of the field if I even have the game on, and if I didn't, it will only take me a minute to pretend to and come up with something entertaining to myself as a fan.

They should go with this at once imho, and give you a percentage for the idea.

I'd pay $100 dollars to go back in time five minutes ago before I clicked on this thread.

As if NFL rules aren't getting stupid enough, you want to turn this **** into American Idol?

What momentary fit of madness made you think this was a good idea?

"The objectivity of trained professionals who are paid to be neutral isn't working. Instead, we should rely on the objectivity of football fans who are pissed off about a call."

    Brilliant.

NFL games officiated using the "Who wants to be a millionaire" gameshow concept.... Could work

I'm not opposed to the concept of crowdsourcing some aspects of the NFL, but on the field penalty calls aren't really one of them. For one thing, how many people actually know the text of the rules?

This might be the worst idea I've ever read in all my years on the Zone.

Ooh, that's an even better idea !

To solve disputed plays, two opposing players selected by the fan referee could have a dance off, decided by viewers at home. And it could be sponsored.

"And this version of the dance off is sponsored by O'Houlihan's Multiform Desiccants and Casual Footwear, where you can purchase the finest hygroscopic substance that induces or sustains a state of dryness in its vicinity, while selecting affordable yet stylish shoes !.........well Jon, it looks like we'll be seeing Andrew Luck facing off with Vince Wilfork to settle this play....Luck looks a little concerned after Wilfork won the earlier dispute with that surprisingly compelling Rhumba...."
