I'm finding that number a little hard to believe.
I only drink when I'm alone or with others.

Look at it this way. If you have as much money as the Pegulas do, you see overbidding as a win/win. The extra 3-4 million means virtually nothing to them. They stop any counter bidding in its tracks while ingratiating themselves to the other owners who will be approving the sale & gladly welcoming them with open arms for inflating franchise values.

It's like the time I bought my house & threw an extra $3,000 over asking on the bid since there was another bidder so that I could slam dunk the deal on something I wanted. Since I was spending over $150k, an extra $3k was almost meaningless to me, but it sealed the deal.

This really didn't turn out to be the circus some people were insisting that it was. Maybe Morgan Stanley didn't screw everything up after all. Things moved quickly, the trust got a record price, and the owner everyone wanted was selected. It seems like everything most of us thought would happen did.

Of course it wasn't. Some will insist it was, however, to the bitter end.

I wish I could have a circus that yielded 1.4 billion

I know, it was too late to edit when I re-read my post. Still to the Pegulas, to throw in that much to slam dunk the deal was well worth it. It also creates a ton of good will with the other owners for increasing the price of admission into their exclusive club.

I wonder who the other 2 unknown bidders are.

for a circus, it pretty much followed the exact time line that kept being put out time and time again.

and with a limited number of buyers, you aren't going to get a rigid deadline date. if potential buyers want a day to complete due diligence, it was afforded. but weeks after ralph's death there were a lot of articles saying "quick sale and owner could be ratified by oct".

We are exactly on that timeline. i would say the whole process went very smoothly.
