    Orton at Practice

Anyone hear any reviews about how he has been playing in practice? I am just hoping this is a positive move rather than a lesser of two evils.

This may have been the day off to watch film, with the practice with the starters tomorrow.

Orton's rockin' a new 'stache, so he'll probably look awesome in practice no matter what he does.

Now that the season is here, practice is CLOSED to all.

    Including the coaches.

Could be part of the problem here.

It's a protection mechanism.

You shroud your childish approach in a vale of pompous, intellectual garbage in an attempt to look smart and "real". You over-analyze even minute points and manipulate statistics to fit your negative view of the team. Again, to feel good about yourself and to protect from getting hurt.

The true "realist" understands that they have no control of what happens on the field or behind the closed doors at One Bills' Drive, so they do the prudent thing for a spectator. They enjoy the games on Sunday with family and friends, cheer for their team and realize that it's just entertainment.

"I was an integral part in the drafting process of EJ Manuel," Whaley said Thursday on NFL Network's Total Access. "I was the person that handled the draft process and setting up the board."

"We are committed. I want you to believe me when I say that," Whaley said of building around the second-year quarterback, per The Buffalo News. "I always tell you guys that I'll never say never because I don't want to paint myself in a corner, but when I do say something, I do it and I mean it and I try to fulfill it."

"We believe the addition of Sammy is going to be instant impact, not only to our quarterback, but to what our offensive coordinator can come up with game-plan wise and how defenses attack us," Whaley said.

Whaley on EJ Manuel: "We think we got a gem in this guy." (2:30)

"And as Mark says, if in three years maybe he's not [our quarterback of the future], then I'll be sitting there saying 'hey guys', .... anybody got a job for me?" - Doug Whaley

    Re: Orton at Practice

Well, I read Marrone looked at the texans game film twice before making the call to go with Orton.

Marrone said he liked the way Orton was practicing.

It really took him two times.
That is a problem in itself.

Probably not a decision made lightly by Marrone.

EJ had some good plays in that game & the Bills were in it until the end.

I think the pick 6 sealed EJ's fate.

    LOL

Besides that Manuel looked good in practice and at camp if I recall correctly. He was hitting the receivers downfield and everything.

Let's see how Orton looks this Sunday. I do think that everyone's overreacting somewhat and that even if we can brush the dust off and get him to play well we're still looking at 8-8 (6-6) at best. Contrary to popular belief here this team still has a whole lot of problems. Hackett still sucks, Marrone's not much better, we're allowing way too many passing yards and it's not like we've played great passing teams, the running game is struggling, if we don't get a big run in a game it sucks.

Lots of stuff to work on and we'll see how having Orton in there changes things.

Of course he's going to say that.

He would never say "Orton sucks- he just sucks slightly less than Manuel" even if that was his true opinion.

We've been over this before. Coaches don't have the luxury of giving their true opinions to the media. They have to keep morale and fan interest high.

Schwartz plays a bend but don't break defense, similar to Dungy.

That defense gives up a lot of yards but not points.

Yes you will see a lot of passing yards against the Bills, but points on the board are all that counts.

And the Lions, Broncos & Packers are the only teams left on the schedule that are great passing teams.....this year Brady & the Pats* are not that.

I agree about morale, but I doubt Marrone replaces Manuel with Orton if Orton was only marginally better than EJ in practice.

What would be the point if that were the case?

Imagine how bad morale will be if Orton comes out & SUCKS against the Lions.

I'm sure Orton's seen quite a bit of film, he's almost as old as Hackett.
