One super star won't win you the cup??? You mean a 40 goal scorer is not enough to win it??
How about a 40 goal scorer and 3 20 goal scorers??
It's been 5 years strait and no playoff for the Sabres, Rangers go to the playoffs, Sabres go back to the draft podium.
Your mistaken, we're getting a generational player and your getting a terrible draft spot with a hope of them being good someday. The Sabres are ~20% more likely to win the draft lottery versus you winning the cup, just to be clear.
Right now there's only first and second place in the draft & winning the cup that's available this season. Tell me which of our teams is more likely to capture one of those 3 prized places ??

So let me get this strait, Being the 1st team in the NHL to clinch a playoff spot a year after you just played in the Cup Finals is a bad thing.
Loosing out on purpose to draft a player that may or may not be as good as Rick Nash one day is a good thing..
WOW!!!

Myers ties his season total with Buffalo in 19 games on a an assist on Blake Wheeler's SHG.
So kings players locked Sutter out of the locker room? Guess the kings will need a new head coach....
The message from the hard ass coaches always gets stale. Specially after winning a couple of cups.
Regher to retire.
Chara has a permanently torn PCL. he's gonna play again next season, though.
I just wonder if the kings are going to be shopping for a head coach

Rumors & assumptions....
- Jim Matheson of the Edmonton Journal: The Penguins should listen to offers on Evgeni Malkin this off-season.Can’t see Dave Tippett being too happy in Arizona. Maybe there is a “mutual” parting of ways. He has a history with Flyers president Paul Holmgren.
- Stars coach Lindy Ruff isn’t a huge fan of Kari Lehtonen. The Stars will likely test the trade waters with Lehtonen. He has three-years at $5.9 million per left on his deal. They could offer him to “middle-of-the-road” teams like the Oilers and Sabres?
Matt O’Conner will visit the Oilers this weekend.
The Oilers should keep their eye on Wild defenseman Jared Spurgeon. Spurgeon has a year left at $3.6 million and will be a RFA afterwords. The emergence of Matt Dumba and the potential of Spurgeon wanting $4.5 million, might make him available. The Hurricanes might also be interested in him.
The Oilers might be interested in bringing Derek Roy back in case Leon Draisaitl starts the year in the AHL, but they won’t be offering Roy more than a one-year deal.-
The Oilers would love to be able to draft Timo Meier with the pick they got from the Penguins, but scouts can’t see him still being on the board when they pick.
- Joe Haggerty of CSNNE: The Bruins should explore trading one of Zdeno Chara or Dennis Seidenberg. Chara has a no-movement clause and three-years left at a $6.9 million cap hit. Would Chara be more willing to move now that Chiarelli is gone? Seidenberg has a couple years left on his deal and is capable of playing heavy minutes. There is some talk that maybe the Oilers would try to sign Dougie Hamilton to an offer sheet. The Bruins would have to match it – from the Oilers or anyone else.
