Is NHL Brass Talking to the Sabres Privately About the Integrity of the Game?

    10 shots last night.

They have been shut out 4 times in the last 6 games.

It is getting to look a little too obvious.

Do you think Gary and others are talking to Sabres ownership and management about the integrity of the game?

For those of you who espouse conspiracy theories of the NHL "screwing over" the Sabres in the draft, it is exactly this type of behaviour that is not good for the game and results in changes to the draft lottery.

This is a long season, but I can't recall a team purposely sucking this bad for multiple years.

    Who the hell would know?

There is nothing more they can do to change the draft policy now so who cares?

Re: Is NHL Brass Talking to the Sabres Privately About the Integrity of the Game?

Sorry but I'm not buying that these guys are intentionally tanking.

Gionta's old and doesn't have that much time left to get another Cup. Stafford's in a contract year. The younger guys are playing for their future- either here or someone else. And they're ****ing HOCKEY players- they're not gonna roll over and die so we can he McDavid and be good in 3 years when half of them won't even be here anymore. They're too competitive.

Getting frustrated during a game and giving up? Maybe- they're only human. But intentionally tanking 10 games in? No way they let that happen.

Signing 2 Hab veterans for "leadership" was either stupid or intentional.

I have a lot of sympathy for current Sabre season ticket holders like Lecter who has to pay good money to endure to watch this crap for a number of years.

When the sabres players begin to try to lose, it'll be an issue. Fielding a bad team by trading away established players for youth and having a bad team for a few seasons is not a new concept. Why people are coming out of the woodwork like this is new is beyond me.

We could trade Stafford for someone dying of Ebola.

Oh wait, that would make us better.

Stewart will be gone as will Myers at some point.

    To address the thread topic...

...I find this thread odd given your history of rooting for the Bills to tank hard in order to get a legit QB.

    Eichel or McDavid?

Cmon down! You're the next contestant on "Buffalo needs a savior"

    Btw... I support the tank.

Spike was the leader in the Billszone of tanking for Matthew Stafford/Sam Bradford/Cam Newton/ Andrew Luck you would think Spike would love and respect what the Sabres are doing.. a 100% effort committed to a tank to get a generatonal player

Big difference doing it for one year in a draft system that guarantees you a specific draft position based on your record as compared to doing it for multiple years in a lottery system.

Hopefully, the lottery system will reward the Sabres with a worse pick for their approach.

    What r u talking about?

the Sabres started dumping talent last year. It's not like they're hell bent on tanking for multiple years.

also... how does having a lottery system where it's even riskier to tank make it morally suspect when in football... if u tank hard like Indi at the right time... you get Luck?

    not understanding that at all.

Last year was a tank -- look at the record.

This year is a tank -- perhaps an epic bad record.

A two year tank will probably result in a 3rd year with no hope given how bad the 2 year tank was.

The Sabres will be fortunate if they make the play-offs before 2020.

This could be a quasi-permanent embarrassment.

Hey, when all you have is hope, you don't want reality thrown in your face.

This level of suck is new.

They are on pace to destroy last years record breaking sucking.

The Islanders were not this bad during their 10 year rein in the basement.

Nor were the Pens when they got Crosby nor TB....

This is a disgraceful level of suck that is an embarrassment to the NHL.

    I'm confused by the fans,

Is this a young team that's just learning?

Is this a veteran team that has no talent?

Yeah it's a rebuild team that consist of what exactly?

Rick Nash has (9) goals in (9) games, The Buffalo Sabres whole team has (10) goals in (10) games.

Even if the Sabres landed McDavid and he turned into the next "great one" This franchise will be picking top 5 for the first 5 years of his career.

The New York Rangers have a 88 year history in the NHL, They have picked in the top 5- 3 times, And that was back in the 1960's.

Re: Is NHL Brass Talking to the Sabres Privately About the Integrity of the Game?

it seems to me the sabres are doing what they've done for years but with young kids. forcing the talent they have to a line they aren't suited for. after drury/briere, the sabres wanted to shift their line 2 up to line 1 and move all the lines up. they needed a legit line one to help those kids and it didnt happen.

this time around grigs is a 2-3, but our best player. when he becomes a second line player or even 3rd line player and the talent above them is excellent, he'll be even better.

the difference to me is that the vanek sabres seemed lazy and undriven. this team just looks lost.

i support the tank. but they have to be the worst team otherwise, the 20% odds of moving up and having to potentilaly take the third pick would be absolutely devastating.

I would rather root for a team that knows it wants to be good for a long time than keep struggling to make 8th place

No, you seem to be confused in general. Most of the young kids haven't cracked the NHL roster yet. Most are in the AHL and lower. So while the sabres are young, much of their high end talent, with a few exceptions, are not part of the team yet. Keep digging.
