I don't have a problem with the appearance, but there is a reason why every military force in the history of ever has required short hair: it's one less thing for your opponent to grab when fighting.

If that dude didn't have long hair, Bradham doesn't make that tackle. It gives the opponent one more method to make the tackle. This time it worked in our favor. Next time, the guy getting dragged down by the dreads could be Watkins or Gilmore on the INT (not holding my breath but he could possibly maybe make a play on the ball eventually).

I don't like giving the opponents an advantage. But this is one of the few times where the NFL got the rule right: you can wear your hair long if you want but you can't cry if an opponent rips it out of your head.

I remember that the very next game Ricky had cut it really short.

My son plays high school football and his coaches tell him if the hair is outside the helmet it's fair game. We were actually talking about it during the game when it happened.

Most of that is fake extensions or braided hair rather than dreads.

Dreads are different. More scruffy looking.

If you watched the CFL Montreal at Hamilton game on Sunday there was a white LB on Montreal who had real dreads. I guess they don't test for pot smoking in the CFL.

Why Are So Many NFL Players Growing Really Long Hair?

...And some guys simply like the look.

“We were playing the University of Miami and I just saw the way they looked. … They were shaking their hair and I was like, ‘That looks good.’ And then when they put their helmets on, it looked great coming out of the back of their helmets,” said Dallas Cowboys receiver Jesse Holley, whose dreadlocks now reach down to the middle of his back.

“It makes me feel like I’m running fast,” Holley added. “When I have my hair out, I feel like a lion. It puts you in that wild, warrior-type mentality.”...

Players know the rules and (as far as I know) don't complain when they are tackled by the hair. I have no problem with them growing it out. Its like having tattoos or piercings. I would prefer that we don't grow it out, because it can be used against you.

                        Another stereotype bites the dust.

I just think it looks stupid and it pisses me off when I can't identify a player because his ****ing hair is covering his name and number.

                        But mostly it looks stupid.

Can you imagine being in a pile and having a dude's hair in your face and you get it in your mouth when you breathe?

                        Yuck.

It looks dumb. It's probably dangerous too. That tackle looks exactly like a horse collar.

no, no, not a stereotype. Just something I've observed over the years.
stereotypes are for people who can't figure things out for themselves.

I have also had bald guys tell me they would grow it to their feet if they could.

Chances are if you put your picture up here. A number of us could find something about you that we don't like either.
But I wouldn't judge you because of how you look.

People who judge other people by how they look are really dumb people.

And you did quote Glenn Becks site. Just saying.

I have no problem with long hair but if I were an MMA fighter or football player I sure the hell would wait until my career was over until I grew it out knowing that it's fair game on the field.
