You don't hire consultants. You hire guys who know how to get it done themselves.
coastal (12-22-2014)
You hire guys who have proven repeatedly they could get it done themselves, but are out of the "doing it" game, and they hire guys who can get it done themselves.
What you DON'T ****ING DO is let Russ ****ing Brandon hire anyone ever again.
Hire Bill Polian to do the hiring.

I'm available for the consultant role.
Peg: "So what is your analysis of the situation Bill"?
Bill Cody: "I think you need a better QB. Send the check to my PO Box"
The problem areas on the field, are easy to identify. Any sort of assessment, probably isn't hurt by starting after next week tbh, as I would expect it to focus as much on stuff like the pro recruitment side, scouting/drafting, and the financial stuff in respect particularly of salary cap management.
It should also include things like the dynamics of relationships between the various departments, GM and Coaches, Trainers etc.
In many respects, I believe that in the last couple of years, much has been done that actually achieves better results, especially in the pro scouting/drafting departments. We seem to be getting more players from our drafts, who are contributing, but unfortunately, not in all positions of need. It would appear that Whaley knows his LBers, as we are now in a better position with what we have, than we've been for years.
The major failures are all on Offense, and it's not on the skill guys, aside from QB. How that can be fixed, must be priority #1. For all that Marrone has been touted as an O-Line specialist (and his past history suggests that he has been good), he's made fundamental errors imho, and with the O-Line, has made the same sort of error that others have made in other areas of the team, namely trying to fit square pegs into round holes. Pears should never have been considered as a guard. Urbik ends up playing on the left side, when Marrone ran out of other options, when he's performed adequately in the past, on the right. Why he wasn't starting from the beginning of the season, and at RG, will likely only be discovered when Marrone rides off into the sunset, or Urbik gets his walking papers. Nonetheless, it was a poor decision, and didn't help us at all.
The play calling has largely been both predictable, and simplistic. Little wonder that with sub standard play from the O-Line and QB position, we could barely score. Something definitely needs to be done to resolve those issues, and although I think Marrone has done overall a decent job, if he's not going to change up the Offense, then he might just have to go.

Why do we need an outside consultant?
why not just hire competent employees and out them in positions to be successful and accountable?
