Reasons to love the Ryan signing

Here's a list of various thoughts:

    1. Has beaten Brady more than the Bills have ever
    2. Pats average 120 yards less on offense against Ryan
    3. The most experienced HC candidate with our division
    4. 4 and 2 playoff record
    5. 2 trips to the AFC championship
    6. Brings a fiery attitude to the team
    7. Paired with Schwartz may push the D to best in the league
    8. Instantly makes us much much more attractive to FA's
    9. If he brings Roman would bring a zone blocking scheme which would be ideal for Spiller
    10. Jets UFA's that may now be in play- Landry, Harris, Colon, Kyle Wilson
    11. SF UFA's that may be in play- Crabtree, Iupati, Perrish Cox
    12. SF players who may be in play via trade/release- Vernon Davis, Kap
    13. Other players we may go after- Revis, Sanchez (eww)
    14. Players who may stay now- Spikes, I could see Hughes since Schwartz is still here
    15. Brings media attention which could easily give us primetime games
    16. Rex will insist on having tough players... Guys that are injury prone may be on their way out... Gilmore comes to mind.
    17. With his previous experience, he can push this team into the playoffs year 1. Any other candidate likely would need a rebuild.
    18. Signing anyone else likely means Schwartz is gone

    Any other facts? thoughts?

Like Bart Scott said recently, players will run through a wall for him because he always has their back.

I'd rather have him than any first timer coordinator.

I love the hire personally and it makes us relevant and most likely will get us a prime time game or two.

...After spending the majority of his youth in Canada, Ryan returned to the United States as a teenager where he attended college at Southwestern Oklahoma State University.....

....Rex Ryan, and his fraternal twin, Rob, were born in
Ardmore, Oklahoma, on December 13, 1962, to Doris and Buddy Ryan.[5][6] When the boys were aged two, their parents amicably divorced.[7] Following the divorce, their mother attended the University of Chicago to earn her doctorate. Rex, Rob and their older brother Jim moved with her to Toronto, Ontario, Canada, where she secured an administrative position at theUniversity of Toronto.[3] During the course of his upbringing, Rex wanted to follow in the footsteps of his father, a defensive pioneer in the NFL known for developing the 46 defense, and by age six Rex and Rob knew they wanted to pursue coaching careers.[8]In Canada, there was little emphasis on football, much to the disappointment of Rex.[9]

By the time Rex was a teenager, Doris realized he and his brothers were too much to handle for a single mother trying to advance her career.[7] She decided it was in the best interest of the brothers to send them to live with their father, who was the defensive line coach for the Minnesota Vikings at the time. The reasons behind this were two-fold; to keep them out of trouble and to help them expand their knowledge of the game of football where it was more prevalent.....

I like that we are the first team to hire a coach. It looks like we got our pick of the litter.
I like that he accepted our offer instead of declining, if only so we don't look like the Browns last year.
I like the idea of Roman coming here.
I like that they have 5 conference championships between them.
True fans want wins, not draft picks.

Since this is a positive thread I won't piss on the ones I don't agree with or are inaccurate, so...

Playoff experience, attitude, keeping Schwartz, ability to attract free agents, bringing in Roman, the possibility of Iupati, Colon, Spikes staying are all positives.

The biggest positive IMO, as THRILLHO already mentioned, is Pegs and Whaley had a definite plan and idea of what type of coach they were looking for (no college candidates), they went through their process, and when they identified who they thought was the best fit they were aggressive in bringing him on board. They deserve a lot of credit for that.

I was just on the Jets fan board.

99% of that board is PISSED Rex is going to the Bills.

They all wanted him to go to the NFC, Atlanta or Chicago.

Also, it wasn't Shanahan, so Brandon's influence on the football side isn't worth a **** anymore.

I don't know if Rex will turn this ship around, but you guys will like him, hard not to. And his D is unique and awesome. This dude turned Justin Bannan into a rotational player for the Ravens, and effective one, he coaches them up like no one else on DL, he's coach the position. Just look at Jets DT Harrison, came out of nowhere and now he's a stud on the interior.

Only good Jets free agent is Harris and we don't need LBs, Ryan is probably salivating with the young three he has right now.

I hope Roman can convince Iupati to come with him. (and a couple of millions thrown his way of course)
