It's Time To Say Goodbye To Fred Jackson

Life's not fair, and the NFL is a business. Time to hang up the shoes, Freddy.

I'd love to see Fred Jackson retire as a Buffalo Bill, but sometimes the ideal situation for the player and fans isn't exactly the best situation for the team.

His productivity has regressed. Jackson only averaged 3.7 yards per carry in 2014, with 2 rushing TD's.

    http://www.rotoworld.com/player/nfl/4506/fred-jackson

Fred Jackson's cap hit in 2015 is $2.58 million.

That is a lot of money to be paying a 34 year old backup running back.

    http://overthecap.com/player/fred-jackson/230/

27 year old Anthony Dixon's cap hit in 2015 is $1.16 million, plus he has ties with Roman.

He was drafted in the 6th round.

    http://overthecap.com/player/anthony-dixon/55/

Bryce Brown's cap hit in 2015 is $660,000, he turns 24 years old in May.

He was drafted in the 7th round.

    http://overthecap.com/player/bryce-brown/728/

Last year, Doug Whaley wanted to trade up for Carlos Hyde (running back) in the 2nd round.

Now Whaley has a head coach that loves to ground and pound.

CJ Spiller won't be playing for the Bills next year. Another team will offer him more money than he's worth, he can't block, can't run between the tackles, can't take the big hits, and he's not the kind of running back Rex Ryan wants on his team because he doesn't deliver punishing runs.

Fred Jackson is a class act. One of my favorite Buffalo Bills of all-time. I know he's a leader in the locker room, but he is no longer a leader in rushing yards.

I know Fred wants nothing more than to be a part of something we've all been waiting for, but I don't think keeping a 34 year old running back on the roster makes sense going in to the 2015 season.

Thank you, Fred Jackson for giving everything you had in you for the Buffalo Bills.

jetison the hart and soul of the offense instead of finding a way of keeping him productive (3rd down specialist) and on the team is what... too difficult?

thank God you aren't making any decisions.

and the hate of Fred Jackson continues.

He's been the bills best back on the roster since he's been here.

The a bills fans don't deserve Fred Jackson the past 7 years.

If we were strapped for cap space, I'd see your point on a declining 34 year old running back.

But we have more cap space then we'll ever use. And his football smarts and blocking ability are better than any other back on the roster.

Uh, considering that the guys responsible for the offense have been run out of town, how smart is it to use last years stats to prove ANYTHING?

He's the starter and will continue to be the starter next year too.

I love Fred Jackson. But acknowledge that if you pay him $2.6 million in 2015, you are doing it for what he brings off the field rather than on it.

And Ralph would have cut FJax and shoved that 2.6 in his mattress.

Pay Fred, or pay someone else who makes the team better. No more BS.

That means we should get rid of Eric Woods,Glenn, Chandler and evry player that regressed under Marrone. Im sure based on Billsimpossibles logic Whaley is also cutting Ej.

I wouldn't mind getting rid of Chandler (contingent on getting a better replacement) because he never impressed me. I'm with you on the rest of it.

2.6 million is modern day chump change though, what he brings off the field is a plus, he's not a breakaway threat anymore, but if you watched any games, the man, old and slow and breaking down, gains yards more reliably than any other back we have. He's not your primary back, but if you need blood and gristle, and Roman does, he gets those yards still. I'm not sure what happens next year, but that stiff arm play happened last season, and I didn't see anyone else get yards with that passion yet.

Re: It's Time To Say Goodbye To Fred Jackson

Well, I have the Bills- Packers game rewind still on my DVR & watched it today.

Game rewind is a 30 minute recap of the game for those that don't watch it.

The Bills defense was on TV for 20 of those 30 minutes.

Orton completed 4 passes, one of which was a 40 yd pass play to Bryce Brown, most of the yds were YAC.

That was his highlight of the game.

Dixon had a couple nice runs, but fumbled the ball which he did recover.

Fred Jackson was the standout RB in that game, picking up first downs time & again.

I am happy with all the Bills RB's, ESPECIALLY Fred. I don't want to waste a draft pick on that position this year.

As Whaley said, Brown is essentially the Bills 4th rnd pick this year.

Re: It's Time To Say Goodbye To Fred Jackson

i think we're getting an amazing deal paying fred just 2.6mil; seems like a steal.

why would you cut an A+ team leader and great guy like fred to save 2.6mil when we have like 30mil free cap space? seems sorta stupid to me.
My wife told me that if I had a dollar for every girl who found me unattractive, girls would find me VERY attractive.

    MY WIFE SAID THAT!!!

$2.6 million is not chump change. And if you were to ask what the going rate is for a 34 year old halfback whose Y/C dipped well below 4 this year, then you wouldn't get half that.

And that's fine. If you want to pay Fred that, I understand and I can get behind it. But don't pretend he's still going to get out there and rock out 15+ carries a game at 34 years old, it's not a realistic belief. He's being paid that because he's a great locker room guy.
