I would think one year at $2.25M will do it for Spikes.
Doesn't seem like anyone wants to use him in their defensive scheme.

Hope he's back. I wish Whaley would show as much urgency as everyone here does. Spikes is good for this defense for a lot of reasons.

I like Spikes as a run stuffer and think he will play in the NFL next year. It's just a matter of which team offers the most money for a one or two down LB.
Should have known, way back in 1960 when we drafted Richie Lucas Number 1, that this would be a long, hard ride. But who could have known it would be THIS bad?

What's left for #Bills in 2nd/3rd phases of FA market? "Maybe get a vet WR," GM Doug Whaley says. "Hopefully get Brandon Spikes back."

Worth an offer for sure ... why hold things up?
Lock him in at a reasonable cost asap.

That's not what was reported earlier. Spikes wants to find a place where he can be an every down ILB. Whaley only wants him as a 2-down ILB. Whaley allowed him to go look around hoping he would end up coming back.
He's had enough time to look, so hopefully, he comes back to the Bills. Whaley expressing his desire for that to happen again has to help Spikes feel wanted in Buffalo.
I just about pissed myself when I saw that comment this morning. Yeah...let's get another vet WR and hopefully bring our run-stuffer back. Not a word about oline. Good thing we've got our priorities in place. What's left for #Bills in 2nd/3rd phases of FA market? "Maybe get a vet WR," GM Doug Whaley says. "Hopefully get Brandon Spikes back."

Just prepare yourself for the inevitable corner we'll draft in the 2nd and the safety we draft in the 3rd and you'll be fine.
In the 6th round we'll draft some guard from Iowa who ran a 5.4 40, and then convince ourselves that we're all set.
The rest of the picks will all be WRs under 6 feet tall, because other defenses "can't cover everyone!"

I don't get some of you folks re: the o-line. You all hated Hackett and the o-line coach. Then you hated Marrone and called him the cause of the o-line. You saw essentially the same players under Gailey make CJ Spiller look great.
You hated Pears. They let him go.
You've got Whaley's three 2014 draft picks, Incognito, Chris Williams to add to Glenn and Wood. You now have a TE and a FB to augment the 5 guys on the line.
They have Roman - who you all seem to love.
Wouldn't you think between Roman and the guys they have on hand that they could cobble together something demonstrably better than they had last season?

If they could grab Evan Mathis I would say they were done with the line.
Just to be clear I'm not predicting that. We need some actual talent on the Oline, they can be protected by scheme but nobody is making Urbik, Incognito and Henderson into chicken salad.
Defenses will attack the weakest link on the line and with only two NFL caliber lineman it's impossible to help out the weak link being attacked. We REALLY needed Bulaga.
The Williams signing was immediately laughed at. He was a career backup that underperformed his draft status and one of the Dougs thought he could polish a turd. Incognito hasn't played in two years, and he's at an age where quality of play falls off pretty dramatically for most OL. That's not exactly what I would call investing, that's picking penny stocks at random and hoping to get lucky.
The TE and FB got a great upgrade, no complaints there. But all those resources spent still haven't brought in a single NFL guard or RT.
He was NOT a career back-up. He was a starter in St. Louis.
And in Chicago:
Chicago Bears[edit]
Williams was drafted by the Bears 14th overall in the 2008 NFL Draft. On July 23, 2008, it was announced that he had signed a five-year contract with the Bears.[1] Williams missed the camp's first weekend after sustaining a minor back injury.[2] He was later diagnosed with separate injury, a herniated disc, which required minor surgery to repair.[3][3]
Williams started taking part in conditioning and work-out drills in September.[4] On November 2, 2008, He made his professional debut on the special teams in a win against the Detroit Lions.[5] Williams was a starter in 2009, and played at right tackle to accommodate Orlando Pace, whom the team acquired via free agency on April 2, 2009.[6]Smith eventually moved Williams back to left tackle after Pace was faced with inconsistent play and injuries. His first major test was to protect Jay Cutler's blindside against the highly toted Baltimore Ravens defense. The following week, he was paired against Jared Allen of the Minnesota Vikings, one of the League's top defensive lineman and pass rushers.[7] Williams' prevented Allen from sacking Cutler, as the Bears beat the Vikings, 36–30.[8]
Williams started the 2010 season as the Bears starting left tackle. However, he was injured early during the team's second game against the Dallas Cowboys. Williams spent the next several weeks nursing a hamstring injury and missed three games. Upon recovering from his injury, Mike Tice, the team's offensive line coach, decided to move Williams to the left guard position.[9]

Henderson isn't the RT?
I didn't like Hackett much, Morris a lot less. My venom re:the oline was spewed mainly at those two, not Marrone. Glenn and Wood are the only true constants from the Gailey era.
I hope so, but that's a lot to expect realistically to have two of three rookies progress into solid players on the oline in year two, let alone all three. I certainly won't discount the possibility, and will be rooting for it.They have Roman - who you all seem to love.

To jimmi - As I posted elsewhere. I didn't say all those guys are great, but the point was they have some guys that could, should be competent.
They have a number of bodies at guard. They have their starters at tackle and center.
Here is the line I would love to see healthy:
Glenn - Evan Mathis - Wood - Incognito - Seantrel Henderson
Back-up center : Urbik
Back-up guard: Urbik, Richardson, Chris Williams, Kuoandijo
Back-up tackle: Kuondijo
They have 9 guards and 3 tackles on the roster if this is correct: (LINK)
So maybe they go tackle first in the draft? Especially having let Hairston go.
