Brandon Spikes was on NFL Network saying he wants to come back to Buffalo and was his favorite place to play.
Unfortunately Whaley has already commented that he'll be hard to use in Rex's defense.

I would like to see him come back cheap.
There does not look like there is interest in today's NFL for him as a 3 down player.
When did Whaley say that?
Whaley said that Spikes is not a 3-down player in Rex's defense. But he did not say that Spikes is no fit in general. Or did I miss that?

Whaley did not say Spikes would be hard to use in Rex's defense.
He said Spikes was only a two down LB in Rex's defense.
A two down LB, just like he has been called on this board all last year.
I don't see Spikes playing three downs for any team.
Whaley said the Bills were open to bringing Spikes back if he wants to come back to Buffalo in that two down role.

What's the problem? Wasn't Spikes a 2 down LB here last year except when we had injuries?

Dude has an edge. I love how tough he plays and even though he is not a versatile player he adds a bit extra to the LBer depth. If he wants to stay, maybe he will come for less money?

Spikes was integral in both the locker room and the field. He brought a toughness to the field that had a trickle-down effect on the rest of the defense. I'd love to have him back stuffing the run.

I really like Spikes, even though I hated him when he played for New England. I'd like him to come back, even if he is only a 2 down player. The guy seemed to be a very good motivator and looked like he was genuinely happy to be playing here.
I wouldn't rule out Spikes returning. He may want to look for a bigger role since he only played about 35-40% of the snaps, but he was probably looking for the same thing last year too. If he signed late last year because teams weren't that interested, I don't know what would be different this year. If he's looking at a limited role no matter where he goes, then he might as well come back to the team he loves playing for.
I think the D will be fine without him, but it would be nice to have the influence of his attitude and toughness.

LOL, I saw an interview with Doug Whaley where he said that Spikes is his favorite player.
Pretty much said that exact thing.
I do not doubt that wants Spikes back, and I can see that happening once Spikes realizes that he overestimated his value in the open market and nobody really sees him as a 3-down linebacker.
Has anyone read whether or not the Bills have an offer to Spikes that is still open for his acceptance?
I hope so.
He probably wants a bigger role and more money than the Bills have offered, which is natural.
But if he doesn't get that better offer, I would love to see him back as a 2 down run stuffing beast and defensive leader. I like what he brings.
Should have known, way back in 1960 when we drafted Richie Lucas Number 1, that this would be a long, hard ride. But who could have known it would be THIS bad?
He is the FJ of the defense.

Spikes is only 27 years old.

Actually this has all been said already, IIRC. Whaley basically said he's a 2-down guy in the new Bills defense. And Spikes said he wanted to be a 3-down guy. So Whaley then said he'd like to have Spikes back (as said 2-down guy), but allowed Spikes to go out and look for what he wants. No?
