I sure hope Spikes comes back. The Bills could use his attitude in the Super Bowl next year.

Mathis isn't on the team, so plugging him in is basically admitting that they haven't done enough yet to acquire veteran help for the oline, and that help is needed. As it stands right now, you've got to replace him with either Urbik, CWilliams or Richardson as a starter. I would be more comfortable with KuJo as a back-up swing tackle if he didn't struggle so much at the position last season. They are slim at OT and it wouldn't surprise me at all if their first pick goes there.

I think Mathis would be an upgrade over Williams or Richardson at LG. But Urbik/Williams/Richardson - one of those guys should rise as being half way competent. The difference in getting Mathis would, to me, be raising the level of the line from good to very good. Or, as you, I would be hopeful of that.

Ouch.I also don’t think his skills measure up to any name recognition he may carry, and the fact Bill Belichick chose not to bring Spikes back to New England when he hit free agency a year ago is more than enough evidence to convince me of that.
Yeah, that article wasn't very complimentary of Spikes. Good. Hope the Vikings end up passing and he comes back.
I do agree that this Spikes doesn't have all the skills that one might expect with that name. That being said, there is no question he is good for that defense in a number of ways.

The type of player Spikes is, is a dying breed in today's NFL.
The lack of interest he has leaguewide should be proof of that.
He is this eras Phil Villapiano.

Guy may be overrated due to his mean streak and leadership. How did he actually grade out against the run last year? Was he really that dominant?
It's not the end-all place to look, but a quick PFF ILB glance has Spikes as 9th vs run, 20th vs pass and 13th overall last year. In 2013, he was 1st vs run, 6th overall, but 38th vs pass. 2012 looked pretty much the same as 2013...1st vs run, etc.
