Considering 4 of the last six #1's have gone to the Oilers it should be pretty obvious that they are dead set on trying to hook Edmonton up with the next Gretzky. Plus, putting McDavid on a West Coast Canadian team pretty much elevates exposure, interest, and sales in a division that sports two other teams from the GWN. Montreal, Toronto, and even to a certain extent Ottawa's status is pretty much cemented east of the Mississippi, now the west has an equalizer.

Yeah I'm pretty pissed about the lottery last night. I just knew we weren't going to get it. I understand that we were going to get one of these 2 and we should be happy since they're both being branded "potentially great, once a generation type players". But we can't fool ourselves, McDavid is the real prize of this draft. Of course now I hope I'm wrong

God forbid any league do it right like the NFL and give the worst team the first pick. Edmonton loves the system though...

Yeah I'm pretty sure it's not rigged now. Edmonton probably makes the least sense of any lottery team this year in terms of the league trying to maximize profits off McDavid.
