I remember that one fateful day when Coach took me aside. I knew what was coming. "You don't have to tell me," I said. "I'm off the team, aren't I?"
"Well," said Coach, "you never were really ON the team. You made that uniform you're wearing out of rags and towels, and your helmet is a toy space helmet.
You show up at practice and then either steal the ball and make us chase you to get it back, or you try to tackle people at inappropriate times."
It was all true what he was saying. And yet, I thought something is brewing inside the head of this Coach.
He sees something in me, some kind of raw talent that he can mold. But that's when I felt the handcuffs go on.
I don't know. It's comparing apples with Oranges. Both had their advantages and both had their disadvantages. The disdvantages with OJ are obviously bigger, but they are not related with football, contrary to for Ralph.
Therefore I wont vote. Anyway I dont think one of the two will win this thing.
It's difficult to do this sort of thing because there's no real definition of what you're voting for, you have to decide for yourself. Like you said, you can't really compare an owner to a running back, or a DT to a WR. You just have to come up with your own criteria, it's not like it's rocket surgery. I have to vote for who I like better/who was more entertaining for me.
If you only vote for importance to the team, then Ralph has to be the winner. The guy is literally the reason why this team exists.
I voted for OJ.
If OJ wasn't such a complete embarrassment, he'd have my vote. He's still a top 5 RB in the history of the game and belongs in conversations with Brown, Sanders, Payton and Dickerson but I could never wear his jersey. Ralph Wilson IS the Buffalo Bills. I kind of wish we had kept this all players and had a separate sweet 16 for coaches/front office. Ralph stands alone.
The only thing Ralph ever killed were the pennies he pinched too hard.
AND.... a lot of those pennies he pinched are going to community projects in Buffalo and Detroit through the family foundation.
