2015 Buffalo Bills Draft Class Highlights - Doug Whaley Hit A Grand Slam

The Bills pick at 50 was a Rex pick all the way as many have said.

Marv Levy and John Butler liked drafting cornerbacks too. The Bills needed a guy at cornerback who can play man coverage, and they got that player in Darby. His tackling skills remind me of Antoine Winfield.

When I read that he was the least targeted cornerback in all of college football, the pick clicked.

It makes sense in the kind of division the Bills play in and the kind of defense Ryan wants, especially if Stephon Gilmore doesn't become the type of player everyone expects him to be in 2015.

John Miller was the right fit for the Bills at pick 81 in the 3rd round. They needed a guard and they got one in Miller who can play the right or left guard positions. Footwork can be taught, and I don't think leverage will be a problem at 6'2. Pass blocking is questionable do to his footwork that can be fixed with good coaching, but the Bills drafted him primarily for his run blocking skills.

He has excellent run blocking ability with the strength to make human pancakes. The Bills are going to need that kind of strength on the interior of their o-line to run the ball effectively against the Jets front 3 D-linemen, Miami's Suh, and Da' Hoody in beantown.

People were pissed that the Bills drafted Karlos Williams in the 5th round, but come week 1 I don't think anyone will complain about the Bills drafting Williams. He is a down hill, run between the tackles kind of back who is going to replace Brown, Dixon, Jackson, or all of them.

The Bills backup running back position was a huge question mark and they addressed it in the 5th round, right around where most people said, "Good running backs can be found in the later rounds."

At 6'1 and 230 lbs with 4.48 speed, Karlos Williams has the size and speed to be the perfect compliment to Le'Sean McCoy, and maybe his eventual replacement in a few years. He can catch the ball too. I love this selection by the Bills in round 5. Great, "value," pick as the talking heads would say.

I couldn't find any highlights for Tony Steward. Special teams addition at most.

The Bills second 6th round pick was a shocker. I couldn't believe Nick O'Leary fell to the Bills in the 6th round. Heard his press conference after the Bills took him at pick 194 and a reporter asked him if he would have a chip on his shoulder due to being drafted so late.

    O'Leary's immediate answer was, "Yes."

Just because he's white and slow doesn't mean he's not a good tight end. If he's slow, then why did he get open so much? Andre Reed was, "slow," too. The Bills needed another TE and they got one in the 6th round.

Who needs speed when you can just run over a player?

    Can Chris Gragg do this?

Last and most certainly not least, the Bills added the biggest wide receiver to their roster since when by drafting Dezmin Lewis with the 234th overall pick in the 7th round.

It was the one dimension the Bills seriously lacked in their wide receiving stable or horses. 7th round receivers never add up to much right?

Stevie Johnson was drafted in the 7th round.

Dezmin Lewis gives the Bills what they were looking for in Mike Williams.

I wouldn't be surprised if all of these players made the roster, just like the entire 2014 draft class.

I take highlights with a grain of salt, but had fun watching them. Wish it was September already.

I'm not. I just want to see how he reacts to conclusive success. Ran into him at the Range years ago and still haven't seen him need too. That's what aggravates me.

Andre Reed ran a 4.4 forty, which would still be good for 5th place among the WR participants in this year's combine. He was not 'slow'.

Not at all. I argue entirely different things with Notacon when I argue with him, that's the internet, welcome to the century and message boards. I see different kings of the trolls evidently. 2 pop out at the top of my thoughts at once, more than that aggravate you from what I read, I don't particularly focus on who you used to be before the name change and helped you with it, I figure every post is, well, a post by the poster.

I want to see how Spiked reacts to conclusive success, which needs conclusive success, and it all gets easy if it happens.

Grand slam with 6 picks seems a bit much.

I would have liked to see two linemen first, but i see DB as a need.

I also don't know what to do with the fact that he isn't also a "return specialist". i feel like we always hear that when we draft a DB. Perhaps that's proof that the curse is broken.

I LOL'ed at the Grand Slam reference.

This draft was not a Grand Slam.

More like a single or a walk.

    No one really knows.
I took grand slam to be hyperbole to counter the many negative assessments.
In any event, I like Whaley and think he has upgraded the roster.
Time will tell what no one can actually know at this point.

Lets just talk about the players and their fits and potentially 53 man rosters. Debating how good or not the draft was is stupid at this point, we can grade the 2012 draft.

Karlos Williams at the 1:30 mark. I was like "Is this a younger faster Fred Jackson?" Dig it.

I am thinking in those highlights, Karlos with his combination of speed & power is more like Beastmode.

Even though the team really isn't in the best position to do so, this is very much a 'down the road' draft, IMO.

I doubt Darby will start unless they plan on cutting McKelvin, but he definitely replaces Brooks and most likely bumps Cockrell down a peg on the depth chart. In 2016 he replaces Graham or McKelvin. Definite roster spot.

Miller has the potential to be a first-year starter, but it's more likely he's a back-up at the beginning of the season, replacing Chris Williams, maybe even Cyril Richardson on the roster. In 2016, he replaces Urbik or Incognito as the starter. Definite roster spot.

Williams could see time in the RB rotation, if he comes with the right attitude. He could also be PS or outright cut. IMO he replaces Brown this season, and moves up to replace FJax in 2016. Probably a roster spot.

Steward is going to have to battle Powell, Gaines and Tarpley for a spot. It's toss-up amongst the four, but IMO he gets cut or PS'd.

O'Leary will probably beat out Gragg or Gray for the #3 TE. Probably a roster spot.

Lewis is most likely PS-bound, will have to fight for a roster spot next year.

"Doug Whaley hit a grand slam"?!?!?!!?

He had probably the worst draft of any team in the NFL.

Jesus, this blind homer **** is disgusting.

Actually it was more like a Hit By Pitch. You're on base, but you aren't ecstatic about it.

A grand slam in baseball scores 4 runs. If 4 out of 6 draft picks contribute and help the Bills win next year, Doug Whaley deserves a lot of credit.

I think Darby, Miller, Williams, O'Leary and Lewis will make significant contributions in 2015.

If Nickell Robey can play in all 16 games as a rookie in 2013, Ronald Darby will too.

John Miller is a true blue guard, and he's good friends with Eric Wood. I think his run blocking skills will earn him a starting role in 2015.

Karlos Williams is faster and stronger than Fred Jackson, Boobie Dixon, and what's his name? Bryce Brown.

Williams was my favorite pick of the draft. He can run, he can catch, and he can return kicks and punts.

Look at his career stats at Florida State.

    http://www.sports-reference.com/cfb/...illiams-1.html

Great numbers, but what stands out and impresses me the most about Williams is his ZERO fumbles in 4 years.

Nick O'Leary was the best tight end in college football. He apparently has bones of steel too.

No major injuries. He walked away from the accident, which is incredible. He should be dead after an accident like that, but for some reason he's still alive, maybe because his destiny is to play tight end for the Buffalo Bills.

I like to make up my own mind instead of letting the so-called, "draft experts," tell me what and how to think.

How many pundits in the past have been totally wrong? By totally wrong, I mean a huge swing and a huge miss.

The, "experts," have so many whiffs they make message boards like this look modest.

If I had hair like Mel Kiper, I could do his job too.
