I would have veered behind the car personally. You can't collide with the air where a car already passed when it is evidently not seeing you. Looked to me like he had enough warning if he was paying attention, and you always pay attention riding a bike.
So he's tough but not real smart with feeble reflexes.
Not sure what O'Leary was thinking. There's a stopped bus that was dropping off a kid so it's lights have to have been on. Then you have the car in his lane with him having more than enough time to stop. Weird.
Well, at least he kept his head down on the follow-through. Grampa should be proud.
