Patriots' Deflate-Gate Acceptance Won't Impact Brady Appeal: Goodell

The New England Patriots' decision not to fight its Deflate-Gate punishment won't impact Tom Brady's appeal of his four-game suspension, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said Wednesday.

Speaking to reporters after the conclusion of league meetings in San Francisco, Goodell said he was "looking forward" to hearing Brady's response to the suspension. A report by investigator Ted Wells found that Brady probably knew about attempts to let air out of footballs before the AFC championship game.

"If there's new information, or information that can be helpful to us in getting this right, I want to hear directly from Tom on that," Goodell said.

Goodell said he hadn't yet considered demands from the NFL players union to recuse himself as arbitrator in the case, arguing that the commissioner himself will be a "central witness."

Patriots owner Robert Kraft said this week that he wouldn't not appeal Goodell's decision to strip the team of two draft picks and impose a $1 million fine.

Goodell said he admired Kraft's decision.

He also said the league had nothing to do with the Patriots' decision to suspend two assistants who were implicated in the Wells report as being part of efforts to deflate balls to Brady's preferences.

And Goodell said the league is now considering changes to rules for the 2015 season to prevent similar scandals.
So much for the Patridiots' argument that the NFL told the to release the Deflator and Jastremski.

Of COURSE he's going to deny it.

Sorry, but no one is going to accept anything as the truth anymore just because Bart Simpso...er, Roger Goodell said it...

Thanks for the link to the Pats' forum, their almost as delusionally entertaining as Deflaticus.

"It's almost comical how bad things have gone for Patriots' fans. I didn't think Kraft would pile on us too. I'm afraid of what's going to happen next."

why are the nutjob posters leaving the twilight zone and continuously posting in the billszone?

as for this story, it seems like kraft got the wrong PR info, then realized a court case would open him up to subpeona's and other things that prove the extent of their cheating.

they thought being loud would make them look defiant, but it made them look like delusional petulant children. and they know by not just admitting it up front, they've made it a huge expense to have the investigation, and that the other owners aren't interested in spending more on this.

I didn't think he'd be worried about this knowing he can destroy evidence quickly.

He already admitted that the Cheaters were guilty when he fired the two flunkies, despite claiming the Patriots were innocent of any wrongdoing. Why fire them if they did nothing wrong? This is him accepting the team's punishment, like Altanta and Cleveland accepted their punishments. Brady is still going to fight it, but he'll lose because, even if he wasn't the mastermind, he should have known the balls were under-inflated and ignorance on his part isn't a valid defense.

by being angry about it, it gives weight that deflated footballs mean something. and frankly, i think he's worried if his other cheating comes out.

they are tweaking all these rules past the rulebook and claiming individually these things don't make a difference. but in conjunction with all they do, it is a significant edge as evidenced by their outlier status.

Goodell is either out of his mind or an incompetent boob, and he's going down because of this.
That's right. He did screw everything up. Tagliabue and Rozelle would have banished Belichick from the league after SpyGate instead of allowing this to fester.

                      Dream on.

Paul Tagliabue exonerated Jonathan Vilma, which is one reason Goodell WON'T ask the former commissioner to arbitrate Brady's case.
