I heard that Oduya is just sitting around waiting for the Hawks to clear cap room. Soon as Sharp is gone, he will be re-signed. And as a Jets fan, he isn't that big of a catch. There are dozens like him in the league. He is just higher profile because the cup run.

Not good news.
Well, he wants to play on Chicago more. I can't fault a guy for being loyal. Good for him.
With the acquisition of Daley, it might make him expendable.

Bowman on Oduya returning: ‘It’s still sort of a fluid situation’
Bowman on Oduya returning: ‘It’s still sort of a fluid situation’

With the Blackhawks acquiring veteran defenseman Trevor Daley from the Dallas Stars in the Patrick Sharp trade, it appears Johnny Oduya’s days in Chicago are over.
According to the sources of Adrian Dater from Bleacher Report, the Blackhawks will not retain Oduya.
During a conference call to discuss the Sharp deal on Friday night, Hawks GM Stan Bowman didn’t close the door on Oduya re-signing in Chicago.
“I’m not going to rule anything out or in,” said Bowman per CSN Chicago’s Tracey Myers. “It’s still sort of a fluid situation.”
On Friday afternoon, Mark Lazerus of the Chicago Sun-Times reported that Oduya plans to make a decision on his future next week. The 33-year-old has been waiting for the Blackhawks to clear cap space in order to re-sign in Chicago.
Oduya has spent parts of four seasons with the Blackhawks winning two Stanley Cups.
His three-year, $10.1 million deal expired on July 1 making him an unrestricted free agent.

So much for him turning us down...
lets see how this develops but a 2nd pairing of Bogosian and Oduya sounds good.
Wonder if our deal is still on the table.
I'm sure it is
I think you guys are making him out to be better than he is. I was happy when he was traded out of Winnipeg. I thought his contract wasn't indicative of his play. I know he is a name on the champs but there are many like him in the league. If you are going to pay a D, why not Franson?
I'd love franson and Stewart. Call it a day and the sabres look like a playoff team

Most recent:
- Adrian Dater: Source says that the Blackhawks won’t be bringing Johnny Oduya back.
- Dennis Bernstein: The Kings have had multiple chances to sign Cody Franson if they wanted, appears they don’t see him as a fit in their system.
Chatter...

@adater @jimw81 that "significant offer" probably looks good right now
- Jim White @jimw81 Jul 10
@Mike6908 @adater cant sign him with only 900k under the cap...
- ♠ @Mike6908 Jul 10
@jimw81 @adater I put him as best defensemen available. A 2 year deal at like 2 or 3 mil would be great
Jim White @jimw81 Jul 10- @Mike6908 @adater hes getting over paid...ron hextall was so right about this ufa class....

Murray says he hasn't moved on from Oduya
The GM still isn’t done changing his NHL roster. He remains on the hunt for a left-handed defenseman, with Johnny Oduya a top target. The blue-liner would like to stay in Chicago, but the team’s salary situation hasn’t made that possible yet.
“He hasn’t signed anywhere yet, so I haven’t moved on,” said Murray, who is examining other players. “We’ve looked at everybody we feel are going to need waivers. We’re still talking trades with teams. We’re still talking about a couple guys that are still out there, but there’s no hurry.”

Oduya would absolutely be an outstanding addition. Don't look at goals and assists with him, look at:
Defensive driving zone presence
Possession #s (hint, outstanding)
First pass out of zone (hint, outstanding)
Mentoring
.....
Plus his contract would be done with when we have to re-up the young ones. He absolutely benefits from the Chi system but also has been a big reason that system has been successful. He wouldn't be O'Neill huge but considering his cost to the prospect pool would be nothing, it would still be a big big signing. With an unproven goalie it would be even more important. Would make us a serious playoff contender.

You can see the Sabres & Oduya stuff - nothing really new there. But read what Jim Nill says beneath that. He says Bowman "needed a top 4 defenseman" like he's not planning on trying to bring Oduya back.
Hopefully good news for the Sabres.
How about Franson and Oduya?? That would amaze.
