    Patrick Kaleta

    plays the waiting game.

    • “It’s a waiting game,” Kaleta said. “Hopefully, I’ll be able to show that the new flavor isn’t always the best flavor. Look at Mike Grier. You realize how much you miss him, and then you want him back.”
Someone could offer him a training camp invite if he’s not able to contract.

    • “In my career, I’ve surpassed any and everyone’s expectations,” Kaleta said. “I’ve played nine years in the NHL and been part of the Sabres’ organization for 11 or 12. I have plenty left in the tank based on how I feel. When it’s all said and done, if I have to have a job like everyone else has a job, that’s fine. I’ll provide for my family however I can, give back to the community and move onto the next part of my life.”

You would have to expose him to waivers each time he went down and up.

What if he goes down and lights it up, figures it out and you try to bring him up. As long as you are prepared to lose him for nothing, perhaps to a rival you are competing with just so you can't have him. And if he is that bad, why would you bother signing him.

I always liked Kaleta. Always thought he was under-appreciated by the Sabres. But he seems like he may be near the end of his NHL playing days. He even seems believe that, listening to his recent comments.

if he wasnt a buffalonian, we would have turned on him a long time ago. not productive, injury plagued.
plays with heart when out there, but 9 years playing his style and the way the refs targeted him, it was useless to have him.

If he wasn't a Buffalonian, I'm not sure he would ever have made it to the NHL.

Sometimes heart isn't enough. He's done.

This following article referenced the article in the op...

The 10 most loathsome NHL players

Of the 10, four have played for the Sabres in recent memory...Kaleta, Ott, Scott, Torres.
Lehner's history. He just doesn't know it yet.

Being injured nearly every time he is on the ice probably means he is done. However, I thought he had done quite a bit to tone in down in recent years and got a lot of "reputation penalties" from the refs. I liked Scott, but he really is pretty much a goon in a league that really doesn't have guys who are only goons anymore. Torres only had a cup of coffee here and Lindy always seemed hesitant to play him anyway. But I think the article writer is way off on Ott. He is at least wrong that every teams fanbase hates him as I believe the Sabres fans would welcome him back with open arms.
