@soshnick BREAKING: @NFL asks federal court to confirm Tom Brady suspension. Complaint filed in Manhattan #sportsbiz #NFL #preemptivestrike

    Rotoworld: http://www.rotoworld.com/player/nfl/1163/tom-brady

Bloomberg's Scott Soshnick reports the NFL has asked the U.S. District Court in Manhattan to "confirm" Tom Brady's four-game suspension.

In other words, they're suing Brady before he can sue them. Brady's 2014-15 decision to slightly under-inflate his footballs has resulted in an all-out war with the league. The SportsBusiness Journal's Daniel Kaplan speculates the league's suit is designed to get the matter out of judge David Doty's jurisdiction in Minnesota. Doty has often been a thorn in the NFL's side. Brady's case is looking a bit shaky amidst the revelation he intentionally destroyed his phone on the day of his meeting with investigator Ted Wells.

The NFL is trying to be preemptive so it can get the court it wants.

This is what I thought would happen. I don't know how good it will look to the judge, with Kraft accepting punishment for the team and the new info on the cell phone destruction. But if the judge lets him play until the issue is decided, we can expect any suspension to be delayed until the 2016 season!

Re: Roger Goodell upholds Tom Brady suspension

**** brady and the scum pats. It's been mentioned in here already, but I too feel that the league should be investigated for bias referees. The point about the FBI handling it due to betting is really interesting. But there's no denying that the first few Pats superbowls were mired with inconsistent referee work. They appear to have flat out had a policy that permitted Patriot DBs to molest WRs beyond the 5 yard window you're supposed to get to name just one example. The league wouldn't have done **** about it either if the Colts hadn't gotten fed up with the bull **** and filed a grievance. The following offseason, the league announced that they would be "re-emphasizing" the five yard contact rule for DBs. What a ****ing crock. We all know they destroyed the spygate tapes, now the cell phone? Someone tell me that this isn't just a dog and pony show for us heathens.... I bet Goodell knows exactly what was on that goddamn phone and I bet he suggested to Brady that he should destroy it.

Re: Roger Goodell upholds Tom Brady suspension

In the 3 days after the AFC title game, 8 calls totalling nearly an hour, 15 texts and the ballboy's first ever meeting in the QB room....

"Mr. Brady testified that he was unable to recall any specifics of those conversations and suggested that the principal subject wsa the preparation of game balls for the Superbowl". (Page 8 of the decision).

"Mr. Brady's agent explained, and Mr. Brady confirmed in his testimony, (a) that his ordinary practice, when he gets a new cellphone, is to give his old cellphone to his assistant for destruction and (b) that he followed ordinary practice with the cellphone..."

"But this conflicts with the fact that the cellphone that he had used prior to November 6, 2014 was in fact, available for Mr. Marryman's review". (p. 12 of decision)

    Please...stop this now...

Of course the suspension was upheld. Reading the highlights of the decision it is obvious that Brady is guilty as hell.

For such a supposedly great Qb, he still felt he had to cheat. And make no mistake, between this and the illegal videotaping the Pats and Brady cheated but good.

Rapoport is claiming on Twitter that the NFL and Brady nearly agreed to a one-game suspension. Oh my god, of course it would end up screwing us

Watch as the suspension is delayed until Week 3 or later so he won't be able to play against the Jets in Week 7.

With the revelation that he destroyed his phone, a four-game suspension now seems even more of a slap on the wrist.

Surprise, surprise, Roger Goodell is doubling down.

The fact that he's pulled the bi2arre tactic of going to court immediately on handing down his ruling shows that the NFL knows that it's case won't stand up in an impartial court, so they're trying to bum rush it through with a friendly judge.

Re: Roger Goodell upholds Tom Brady suspension

Keep digging, Tommy-Boy...the rest of the owners are sick of your ****, and probably Kraft's also, that's most likely the motivation behind being so aggressive at this point.

"You work for us, dumbass, not him, so put the hammer down or else."

The longer this goes on, the worse it gets for Brady, Belichick, kraft and the Pat's organization. I hope it drags out as long as it takes for the general consensus to wake up and realize none of them belong in the HOF and anything they've accomplished in the last 15 seasons is through cheating and subterfuge, not skill and competitiveness.

    Tarnish away, gentlemen...

    Yeah ok.

That's what everyone does. New phone. Just wreck the old one. The fact that he was under investigation just happens to be a mere coincidence.

    Lol!

"Maybe Tom Brady learned how to wipe his phone clean by watching Hillary Clinton wipe her server clean," (Presidential candidate Carly) Fiorina said. "I mean, hey, if the secretary of state can just wipe out all relevant information on an investigation involving her, maybe Tom Brady decided, 'I can just wipe out all the text messages as an investigation swirls about me?'"

They were discussing this on Mike & Mike this morning (ESPN Radio). They thought is that he would accept the 4 games to get it out of the way, rather than fight it risking that the federal court upholds the decision and he loses games in weeks 13, 14, etc.

I still think complaining about the privileged kid and hoping someone else brings him down is feeble instead of just doing it yourself.

We need to start beating them like other teams do, take the division and crush their glory like the Bills once did with Marino and the Dolphins, who I felt were privileged in their day and that era. It's much more satisfying than hoping someone else does it for you which only gains you whiner bragging rights, (I don't mean you personally) like yelling nyah nyah from behind your mom.
