The fans will riot if it's Cassel. The stadium was DEAD when he went into the game. The energy level was palpable for EJ. It was ELECTRIC for Tyrod. But when Matt Cassel was playing in between them, it was like we all collectively decided to do our impression of a New England Patriots football.

Roman picked Kaep over a steady Alex Smith. Our versions are both worse than the 9er counterparts, but I'd be surprised if Roman picked Cassel here.

Did he pick Kaep or did Smith get hurt and he had to play him and Kaep played better than most suspected and the rode the "hot hand"? Kind of like the Bills did with Flutie.

That would be disappointing for sure, however not unexpected. The ups and downs you're likely going to experience with Taylor/Manuel may be too much risk for a group of coaches who are trying to rebuild their reputations (Roman and Rex).

I thought Tasker made a great point yesterday. If Cassell is the QB, you better be good on 3rd down, because you're going to see a 3rd and 5 every set of downs. Hell, they have all these big play guys at skill positions; might as well play a guy that will go downfield once and awhile.

Considering that the top 3rd down percentage in the league last season was less than 50%, that's not a winning formula. There are too many players on this roster with big play ability to be wasted on 6-7 yard outs.

I think everyone is forgetting that most of our starters at WR and RB haven't been out there. This is not last years offense or offensive scheme. I don't think Cassel will be in as many 3rd and 5s as everybody is thinking.

I'm excited about Taylor but I wouldn't be shocked in the least if Cassel gets the nod.

I look at it like this. If Tyrod gets the start and isn't "all-pro" the Vic Caruccis of the world are going to talk about how Rex Ryan started his guy when we had a seasoned vet that could have led us to the promised land. I wouldn't want to be making this decision and neither would any of you.

Cassel is the one that has run the least amount of series in this preseason. That's gotta tell you something.

I think we can all agree that our QB situation looks miles better than anyone could've predicted before the start of training camp. I think we all expected just one guy to be decent before it all started. Well as it turns out all 3 of our guys played very good football. You gotta give Roman and his staff credit for that. Give the man the benefit of the doubt if he decides to go with MC. Roman is the one making this whole thing happen. And even if MC is the guy I suspect he's gonna be on a short leash and Taylor will be good to go if needed.

I think they would be going conservative early on until the run game settles down and then they can start adding more plays.

Roman is leaning towards Cassel. Front office and many other coaches like Taylor.

Rex is torn. He probably likes Taylor but respects Roman.

Take it at face value.

If it's about fewest mistakes and committing to the run and big D, then Cassel is the choice. ( Me guessing ). That's probably what Roman is thinking...for now.
