and with 1 year on his contract, wouldn't he need to be picked up at that $2.3MM rate?

the teams that want him are structured to win now and may be tight on cap space.

The Safety Kam Chancellor holding out in Seattle is supposedly the reason for the delay. Cap is tight.

Their backup RB is hurt and the 3rd RB had a bad summer.

Is this really the case? He didn't qualify for waivers, so I would think any team can sign him to any contract, no?

If I were Jerry Jones I'd be dialing Freddie's agent's number right now. All their backs have sucked so far.

True enough, so who wants a old back up RB as a leader ??

Yes of course. His old contract is dead. There is a league minimum for a vet like him, but it is much less than a $1,000,000 per year.

Vet minimum salary for a player with 7-9 years in the league is $870k, but any player with 4 or more years in the league that plays for the vet minimum only has a cap hit of $585k.

I think Freddie is the one holding up where he'll be playing next. And I think his first choice is Seattle and he's waiting for the Chancellor sitch to play out.

They must be cut to the bone then on salary cap. If Jackson is serious about playing for the vet minimum, then his contract would only be a few hundred thousand more then the guy he replaced.

If you haven't noticed, they aren't into drafting or picking up aging players.
