He was snipped in Miami for missing short field goals after he was solid for them for a few years.

I definitely think the Bills should at least explore what other options are out there, possibly via trade as well. The Steelers sent a 6th round pick to Los Angeles for Josh Scobee, who has been a solid kicker his entire career...so who knows what's possible? Dustin Hopkins has looked good in New Orleans.............
The last time the Bills made the playoffs was 1999.

And kickers seem to have the same psychological makeup as hockey goalies, once they're rattled it doesn't come back easily. I hope he can get it together-he was huge for us last year but with nine days til the opener it seems a little shaky.
I happened to caught on what Chris Brown said about Carpenter - he observed a lot of turf being kicked up from Carpenter, meaning going under the ball, not in proper form due to missed practice etc. You can easily imagine not striking the ball correctly the side to side as well. Maybe he's not completely healed either.

But you also have to consider the season start time does not wait for anyone ...

I liken it to a golf swing. It's a really repetitive, precise mechanism and there are subtleties depending on angle and distance. I think he just needs more reps because it's clear that he is still able to put 50 yarders up. He was automatic inside 45 yards the last two years. That said, if there is someone out there after cuts that has good percentages and can make Jordan Gay obsolete, then do it.

but remember norwood was really good up until he missed the superbowl kick and then struggled for 2 years and was gone.

i don't know the pysche of a kicker, but frankly, if carpenter's cap hit is significant, i would rather lose a game with carpenter missing than losing a game with a newbie kicking. in that second scenario we'll all wonder what would have happened if we just kept carpenter.

Looks like hes about the middle of the NFL for kickers. Cap number this year is 2.36, goes up over the next two years to almost 3 by 2017

Was activated from injured reserve on 8/16. Still working out the kinks.

It's nuts to have two roster spots for kickers.

I think Carpenter will be fine.

Maybe he is upset about losing his dog.

I would seem short-sighted to cut Carpenter right now. Hopefully Rex is just trying to light a fire under Carpenter.

It was a joke...as in the Jaguars are a joke and should be in LA. I'm feeling witty today.

When you plan on most of your scoring coming from FG's, you better have a K that is automatic. I'd like to think that Carpenter is still working out the kinks and getting in shape, but if that were the case I would think Ryan would be at least a little bit understanding.

Dan Carpenter and his wife recently had to put their 11 year old family dog to rest.

Losing a family pet is like losing a close relative to a lot of people. It's no different than losing a son, or daughter or uncle.

After my brother had to put his dog down, he went in to a tailspin of depression.

I think it would be cool if Rex Ryan adopted a puppy, made it the Bills family mascot, and handed it Dan Carpenter in the locker room.

Best wishes to Dan and his wife.

Do you have kids? Heaven help them if you think losing a dog or a cat is the same as losing one of them.

I do not have kids, thank God.

People love their pets just as much as their human family members.

I know people that have grieved more over the loss of a cat than their own mother.

Dan Carpenter is 29 years old. His dog was with him since he was 18 years old.

11 years of some of the best memories of his life, and now his best friend is gone.

That would be emotionally devastating to most people with a heart.

    Here's some advice:
If you're ever at a funeral, don't compare the loss of the person with a dog or cat.

NFL kickers and NHL goalies are, "different."

I think it would be best to have Rex Ryan adopt a puppy from the SPCA and hand it over to Dan Carpenter.

    Problem solved.

If it's a male, his name should be Bill. If it's a female, her name should be Jill.

I would do anything to get back Dan Carpenter's mojo.

Did SpikedLemonade kill Dan Carpenter's dog?

We've had it rough as bills fans. But i firmly believe that Steve Christie spoiled the ever loving hell out of this fan base.

That man worked absolute miracles in **** conditions. He was the best FG kicker in Bills history as far as i'm concerned.

    Total man-child.
