Ummmm....why didn't they just cut a WR and spare Meeks, then?

Meeks was one of the extra guys I thought would be cut anyhow so that makes no sense. Goodwin is hurt, so that speculation also makes no sense.

Because if they trade a WR they get something in return and if they just waive that player they get nothing.

So they keep a player they didn't want to anyway (WR) and cut a player they wanted to keep? That's half-assed.

Not surprising, though, considering how the organization has been running the last 10 months.

The way I'm looking at this is they like the WR more the Meeks, but they like Meeks+ what they were going to get for the WR more then the WR. That's not to hard to understand.

But they weren't going to get anything for the WR...obviously.

Well, if option A is WR> Meeks and Option B is Meeks + whatever > WR. And your not going to get whatever. Then you go with option A. Which is what they did. It's not rocket science.

Trying to get value & keep a player is a good play.

Re: Rumor: Bills tried trade a WR to keep Meeks, no deal so they waived him

If Meeks was that valuable, they'd just cut a receiver and keep him...or ya know hold on to Meeks til tomorrow working a trade/trying to instead of cutting him now.

This entire premise makes zero sense.

If Meeks + an unknown (which is likely a very low draft pick) > a WR, than Meeks is > the WR to begin with, value-wise.

"We'd like to keep Meeks, but only if we can snag a pick that we're going to cut next year anyway. Otherwise, we'll go with the WR that is going to be inactive most of the season."

    I don't think so.

    Mike Rodak ✔ @mikerodak

Bills have waived safety Jonathan Meeks after trying to trade him, I’m told. If not claimed, he could re-sign to practice squad.

    The Bills disagree.

I'm thinking Swiper/Rodak's version is closer to the truth than Marvez...it makes more sense.

    So what?

Jonathan Meeks isn't anything to crow about.

If you can't beat out Duke friggin' Williams, you don't belong on an NFL roster. Not even the practice squad.
