- $42.9M initially guaranteed (Signing bonus + 2015 base salary + 2016 base salary + 2016 option bonus)

- 2016 Option Bonus: $7M
- $9.75M 2017 salary becomes fully guaranteed on the 3rd league day of 2016
- $2.35M of the 2018 salary becomes fully guaranteed on the 3rd league day of 2016
- Additional $5M of 2018 salary becomes fully guaranteed on the 3rd league day of 2017
- 2019-21 Roster Bonus: $2M (due 3rd league day of each year)
- 1st Team All Pro Base Salary Escalator: $250,000
So it seems Whaley has spread the cap hits out over this deal by effectively giving Dareus two signing bonuses. One this year (which apparently we don't have to pay until December, oddly enough) and another $7 million he'll earn next year which then itself spreads out over the balance of his contract. It's the reason why his dead cap hits stay so high for the first four years of the deal.
Next year Whaley has his work cut out for him, though I got the distinct feeling from this year that he doesn't care. If he doesn't make the playoffs, he's fired and its the next guy's problem. We have about 148 million in committed cap without accounting for Glenn, Bradham, Cassel, or Incognito. The last two may play themselves out of the discussion, but it does seem like Glenn is gone.
