I don't think I've ever been more concerned with how a rookie was going to perform after watching Darby in the preseason. He was terrible and with how Rex's defenses rely on single man coverage for the CBs, I was convinced we were in for some frustrating plays. He has done a complete 180 since then, and I love it.

Sure I understand the concern based just on pre-season but the overreaction around here for a rookie in his first game action was absurd.

Lets just hope he doesn't regress like Leodis did.- Darby is the second Bills cornerback to be named NFL Defensive Rookie of the Month (Leodis McKelvin, November 2008)

How did this happen ?
In August I was told he sucked and he shouldn't be starting.
Rex never really seemed concerned about his play so I wasn't too worried. He even said that they intentionally put him in tough situations during preseason. I expected once the real games began that they would do whatever was necessary to give Darby help if he needed it, but he's played really well.

easily the most crucial questions going into the season was whether tyrod can be adequate enough to compliment a strong defense/running game, and can darby avoid embarrassing himself and ruining everything

One set of rules for all in the beloved community
In preseason we're basically blitzing no one (or very little compared to Rex's normal schemes), and still leaving these guys out there in man coverage - imagine having to cover a guy for 6 seconds or 7 seconds as opposed to 3 or maybe 4 seconds - makes a big difference. DL's like ours can make CBs and safeties look great because the QB has to make quick decisions.
Good for him, great to see his growth from the preseason.
From what I've seen, CB's tend to improve the most between their rookie year and 2nd year in the league. It's a very pleasant surprise for Darby to be playing this well this early.

The preseason rule is as follows:
If something good happens, it's only preseason.
If something bad happens, burn Ralph Wilson Stadium to the ground.
Funny how the "eat crow" crowd, gets to bask in the joy of the start of a good season, and how well Darby has played. They all had their chests puffed out ready to pounce to show how smart they are. I'd love to have it my way on both sides of the fence.
