    MARRONE HEAD COACH IN 2016

Could Doug Marrone be a head coach again in 2016?

As the list of candidates to fill the looming NFL head-coaching vacancies begins to be compiled, a name that largely has been forgotten has once again become front and center: Former Bills coach Doug Marrone.
Some have Marrone not just as a fringe candidate in a season that may have more vacancies than “A” list candidates, but as a no-brainer. Ian Rapoport of NFL Media rattled off Marrone’s name earlier today not as a possibility but as a given, along with Patriots coach Josh McDaniels and Bears offensive coordinator Adam Gase.
The obvious response is this: Why didn’t Marrone get hired last year, after opting to leave the Bills with full pay for 2015 following the change in ownership? As one source with knowledge of the dynamics recently explained it to PFT, Marrone arrived on the scene as a potential candidate a little too unexpectedly for teams to scrap their existing plans.
This year, Marrone (the offensive line coach and assistant head coach-offense in Jacksonville) is a known candidate. The resurgence (relatively speaking) of the Jaguars won’t hurt his cause.
The bigger boost for Marrone will come from his work with the Bills. He took the team to a 9-7 record in 2014. This year, the 5-4 Bills may have a hard time matching that performance despite having better talent.
Also helping Marrone will be the simple fact that there may be too many vacancies and not enough truly qualified coaches to take the jobs. Some have pegged the number of potential total openings at a whopping 14.
While the actual number surely will be much lower, there still may not be enough clear candidates for those jobs. And if an owner is looking for one of the rarest of former head coaches who wasn’t fired but chose to leave, Marrone could indeed be on the short list, somewhere.
    Or in multiple somewheres.

I feel for the team that hires him.

    I hope it's Miami.

I got mixed feelings about Marrone. he did have a 9-7 record with less talent and a much weaker coaching staff.

The media is really pushing this guy. He was going to be the hot coaching candidate last year remember. Ends up taking a OL coach job on one of the worst teams in the NFL. Yes, I know they beat us (thanks EJ). This guy has a lot of questions to answer before an owner and players would trust in him again.

He quit on his team after preaching "team=family". I think he needs to explain that to another owner. I don't think he did a good job of that last year and that why he's an OL coach this year.

You can quit your job at any time for any reason. Do you think it make you look good to the next guy looking to hire you. You better have a good reason. You just can't say "My old boss was an ass. So I said screw him" and expect to get hired.

Doubt he's still in the NFL next year, much less a HC.

If he's a "no-brainer" then teams would be willing to scrap their plans to hire him.

Wouldn't be surprised if he does get a HC job, though.

I would. In fact I'd bet good money he doesn't.

NFL is a good old boys club that regurgitates coaches over and over. I can easily see some regime thinking his situation in Buffalo was bad and he had one of the better records in Buffalo in a while.

Re: MARRONE HEAD COACH IN 2016

I'm not sure Marrone was 100% the problem. My problem with him was that he refused to hire good coordinators on O and Special teams and his "specialty" of O-Line was the worse I've seen it in years. Though he did get 9 wins out of a team that probably wasn't a 9 win team. He'll get another chance whether he deserves it or not.

If he's hired as a HC , he'll bring in a Schwartz to make him and Hackett look good record wise

I think Schwartz should and will get another HC job before Marrone
