    Tank on!

Seriously... this team is clearly better than last year's sh1t show but they aren't making the playoffs.

another prize is waiting there in Matthews and some recent reports are saying that he's a better prospect than Eichel.

were bound to win one of these lotteries.

Chychrun would be a better fit for them than Matthews.

Where is Matthews gonna play? You already have O'Reilly, Eichel and Reinhart.

The 2nd to 5th best prospect in the 2016 draft are close in stature..once you get out of the Top 5 there is a significant dropoff.. If the Sabres aren't good eough to make the playoffs(and they are not) they really need to be picking in the top 5

    This team now reminds me of the 90-91 Sabres team, before they traded Turgeon for Lafontaine... listen to this roster P.Turgeon 32G, D. Andreychuck 36G, D. Hawerchuck 31G, , A.Mogilny 30G, D.Audettte , R.Vaive, C.Ruutu, B.Hogue, U. Krupp, G. Ledyard, D. Bodger, D. Snuggerud, M. Ramsey, R. Ray, D.Shannon, K. Sutton, B.Houlder , C. Malarchuck, D. Puppa, D. Wakaluck (lost in the Division Semifinals in 6 games to Canadiens 4-2)

    Ummmm.. No

You always take the top talent. Centers can easily move to wing.

I would agree with this if the talent level disparity was huge between the two players, but it's not.

Chychrun would easily be the best defenseman on the roster day 1 and would be a top 5 player on the team.

I highly doubt he's better than Risto on day #1. Especially "easily"

Chychrun is not a slam dunk No. 2 pick.... If GMTM had one of the "Big 3" wingers or all of them rated ahead of Chychrun he would have a tough choice.. But its never a good idea to take who you have rated 5th best with the 2nd overall pick

BTW defensively this canadian version at the world juniors is very so so.. And Chychrun was cut and wasn't able to make this team? Have to wonder if he isn't quite the prospect everyone in the hockey world thought he was and is a bit overrated

Team Canada doesn't take too many pre-draft guys.

Seguin, Monahan, Duchene, etc. have all missed it.

I realize Team Canada can be very politicized in their selection process but Aaron Ekblad made Team Canada 2 years ago his draft year and got plenty of minutes and was the best defensemen for Canada... Better than guys who were 1 or 2 years older than him a few of them were top 10 picks.. Chychrun to me is not as good as Ekblad... I wish he had made team caanda though he probably would have played better than a few defensemen that Canada.. currently has playing... I think if mock drafts are being done next week Chychrun would be not the NO.2 pick on some of them like he was in the past

He's the slam dunk number 1 D-man taken. It really just depends on if people like Puljularvi or Tkachuk better, no way Chychrun lasts til pick 5. In fact I'd be shocked if two D aren't gone in the top 5.

Personally I think Puljujarvi has the potential to be the best player in this draft, although that won't come to fruition for a few more years as he's nowhere near NHL ready right now.

    Re: Tank on!

Time to throw massive cold water on this thread.

Buffalo's not tanking again, despite their lousy play of late. I think their trajectory is going to mirror that of Chicago's; it took them a few seasons to get some traction before they started winning Stanley Cups. When the draft comes up, I think they'll be in the 6-10 range in the first round.

    End of discussion.

    Re: Tank on!

I was at the game against the Islanders. No need to tank because the talent is there. They just need to develop and learn to play together.

In the first period they were in sync and generated a lot of scoring opportunities. The rest of the game, they were just a little off. I distinctly remember one play where Eichel got rushed so he quickly entered the zone, took two defenders with him, and passed back to the point. The problem is that no one was home. If the other players knew what he was going to do, that's a scoring chance.

It won't come in time to save this season, but it will come.

McGinn producing some... he will get a return at the trade deadline. No need to sink any money into him.

I say we run Lehner out there for the rest of the year no matter how he's playing. He's Murray's boy.. might as well ride and hope the light bulb goes on... but not until the end of the season...

Are there any other pieces we can move?

    Re: Tank on!

I agree with the premise of this thread. Buffalo is miles better than last year. They have also been without their starting goalie for practically the whole year. While their play has not resulted in enough goals and their goaltending has been ok of late, they have been getting chances to score and not putting them away. And while their goaltending has made some spectacular saves along the way, they have also given up some pretty soft goals. That giveaway to Williams in the second Washington game comes to mind.

They are a vastly better team, but even a vastly better team wouldn't necessarily make the playoffs being almost historically bad the last two years. As long as they continue to grow and get better and find out if the goalie they gave up so much for is the answer, I will be happy.

But a lottery win for once would be really nice.
