Re: 2016 - Draft simulator time....

I ran a couple drafting as the Broncos, just to see what the sim would do drafting as the Bills...

    Fanspeak-

    1-OT Jack Conklin
    2-WR Josh Doctson
    3-OLB Scooby Wright
    4a-DE James Cowser
    4b-CB Tavon Young
    5-CB Keivarae Russell
    6a-DT Nile Lawrence-Stample
    6b-ILB-Casanova McKinzy

    Composite Big Board-
    1-OT Taylor Decker
    2-DE Kamalei Correa
    3-ILB Kentrell Brothers
    4a-DT Sheldon Day
    4b-WR Caleb Jones
    5-CB Maurice Canady
    6a-P Drew Kaser
    6b-CB Michael Jordan

Why in the hell the sim would take a punter, especially considering the site doesn't have the position listed as a need, I have no idea.

Great idea. I can probably have awesome drafts as the Browns. Don't even care about the team anymore, I'm addicted to the process.

Hm, anyway, the obvious reason for the punter is for much needed punter depth. We only have one of them you know.

Attempting to draft as the Browns completely screwed up my karma. I have ill humors, disharmonious vibes, and disturbed vapors. Haven't been able to come up with a draft that makes me happy using any board since.

That's why I used the Broncos and not the Browns. Silly.

Re: 2016 - Draft simulator time....

OK, here's my 'Let's pretend Wrecks was never hired' mock.

    A few assumptions...

An offensive-minded head coach was hired, bringing along a competent OC and offensive staff. Schwartz and the defensive coaches were retained. Last season's cluster**** of free agency (Clay, Harvin, Felton...maybe even Taylor) never happened. Incognito, re-signing Hughes, maybe even the Shady trade still did. Some of the money wasted on offense was given to Spikes and he stayed. The team is still running a Wide 9 on defense, Mario re-structured this off season and stayed. Last year's draft stays the same. The defense is still mostly dominant, but Searcy still walked.

Team needs = Oline, TE, QB, WR, safety and defensive depth/eventual replacements.

    19: R1P19
    OT JACK CONKLIN
    MICHIGAN STATE

    49: R2P18
    TE HUNTER HENRY
    ARKANSAS

    80: R3P17
    DT JAVON HARGRAVE
    SOUTH CAROLINA STATE

    117: R4P19
    QB DAK PRESCOTT
    MISSISSIPPI STATE

    139: R4P41
    C MAX TUERK
    SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA

    156: R5P17
    CB JAMES BRADBERRY
    SAMFORD

    192: R6P17
    WR DE'RUNNYA WILSON
    MISSISSIPPI STATE

    218: R6P43
    OLB ANTWIONE WILLIAMS
    GEORGIA SOUTHERN

If Conklin is there (one of the top three OT's) you take him.
Henry may be the top TE in the draft, good replacement for Chandler.
Hargrave is the eventual replacement for KW.
Prescott, with or without Taylor, is a good risk/reward gamble in the fourth (Goff, Wentz and Cook were gone in the first 15 picks, no thanks on Lynch)
Tuerck--b/u guard center, Woods eventual replacement.
    Bradberry switches to safety.
Wilson adds a WR with size for depth.
Williams depth/special teams...eventual replacement for Brown on the outside when he moves inside to replace Spikes.

Re: 2016 - Draft simulator time....

    Ok, using your scenario :

19: R1P19 OT JACK CONKLIN MICHIGAN STATE : Enough said.

49: R2P18 OLB JAYLON SMITH NOTRE DAME : D is doing fine, I can afford to waste a season healing a potential superstar.

80: R3P17 WR RASHARD HIGGINS COLORADO STATE : Stevie Johnson with route discipline works for me.

117: R4P19 QB CARDALE JONES OHIO STATE : Still think he's the best potential QB in this draft, howitzer arm, big as a tank, mobile, and freed from Ohio State's bootleg.

139: R4P41 DE BRONSON KAUFUSI BRIGHAM YOUNG : Smart, has time to learn, can spell Mario and develop. I think he's going to like the wide-9.

156: R5P17 DT MATT IOANNIDIS TEMPLE : Smart, worker bee, rotational, eventually replaces Kyle.

192: R6P17 S TYVIS POWELL OHIO STATE : Schwartz uses safeties like centerfielders. Single high safety is just his cup of tea.

    218: R6P43 G JORDAN WALSH IOWA : Future Urbik, from Iowa, guard/center.

Skimped on ILB & TE. At TE, Nick O'Leary is getting plenty of snaps and at LB, I'll shore it up with FA's or UDFA's until next season when I can see what Jaylon can do.

I went with the Buddy Nix Dedication Draft per Illumi suggestion, nothing but ACC/SEC picks.

I'm still not a fan of taking a kicker so high, but otherwise I would walk away feeling good after that one.

Another 'sim' mock, with me drafting as the Steelers, using NFL...

    1-LB Reggie Ragland
    2-DE Carl Nassib
    3-OLB Kentrall Brothers
    4a-DT Maliek Collins
    4b-WR Leonte Carroo
    5-TE Thomas Duarte
    6a-CB Jonathon Jones
    6b-OT Brandon Shell

Left players like DJ Reader, Spencer Drango, Antwione Williams, and John Theus on the board.

Re: 2016 - Draft simulator time....

A 'Reach' draft of players that are projected (by NFL,com) to go at least a full round later than actually picked below...

    19: R1P19
    S VONN BELL
    OHIO STATE

    49: R2P18
    OT JERALD HAWKINS
    LSU

    80: R3P17
    OLB JORDAN JENKINS
    GEORGIA

    117: R4P19
    QB DAK PRESCOTT
    MISSISSIPPI STATE

    139: R4P41
    DT NILE LAWRENCE-STAMPLE
    FLORIDA STATE

    156: R5P17
    CB JUSTON BURRIS
    NC STATE

    192: R6P17
    WR DE'RUNNYA WILSON
    MISSISSIPPI STATE

    218: R6P43
    DE JOSH DAWSON
    GEORGIA

Bell-An early gift for Ed Reed who was brought in for a reason, right?
Hawkins-Need an OT to challenge Henderson.
Jenkins-An OLB to push and eventually replace Lawson.
Prescott--They may actually have to pull the trigger earlier if they want this kid.
Lawrence-Stample-KW's 'breather' guy and eventual replacement.
Burris-Wouldn't be a Bills draft without a corner.
Wilson-Just don't trade up over a team that plans on taking a punter again. Please?
Dawson-Solid, unspectacular. Size and experience (played LBer before switching to DE in '15) = good depth/situational rotation.

Re: 2016 - Draft simulator time....

I'm not so sure about nfl.com being grounded in reality after this, but why look a gift horse in the mouth, using their big board.

19: R1P19 QB JARED GOFF CALIFORNIA : Well, he was sitting there all alone looking so sad.
49: R2P18 RB DERRICK HENRY ALABAMA : Karlos and his concussions to NY Giants, McCoy back to Philadelphia.
80: R3P17 DE JIHAD WARD ILLINOIS : I get the end I wanted.
117: R4P19 G VADAL ALEXANDER LSU : Yeah sure, one of the best guards is there in the 4th, he's mine now.
139: R4P41 DE YANNICK NGAKOUE MARYLAND : OLB, not DE. My OLB.
156: R5P17 OT JOE HAEG NORTH DAKOTA ST. : Ok, Joe Haeg makes it to round 5 ? He's not making it to round 6. My Joe Haeg.
192: R6P17 OLB TYLER MATAKEVICH TEMPLE : ILB, not OLB, my ILB in round 6 ? Ok.
218: R6P43 DT NILE LAWRENCE-STAMPLE FLORIDA ST : I like this guy. There's the NT.

Straight-up, BPA according to Walter Football (because they were the most recently updated). No questions asked, the guy at the top of the list at my pick, was the pick. One exception, the very last choice, the top two were WR (already had two) and CB, and Kearse was third.

I tried straight up BPA a bunch of times. Ended up with mostly WR's and CB's, like 3 of each.

I was surprised, in all honesty, how well it went (except for late when WR's and CB's populated the top of the list). I waited as long as I could without 'cheating' a little bit (the very last pick), and still ended up with a WR, two DTs, an olineman, and a LBer.
