Once the NHL opens it up to a vote from the fans, they have NO business manipulating it if it doesn't turn out how they like.
"'Clean up your room.', 'Stand up straight.', 'Pick up your feet.', 'Take it like a man.', 'Be nice to your sister.', 'Don't mix beer and wine, ever.'. Oh yeah, 'Don't drive on the railroad track.'"

"Eh, Phil. That's one I happen to agree with."

He always seemed to be a likeable, funny guy, and a great fighter.

And... he had more goals than Ville Lieno in his last season in Buffalo.

Has anyone seen the Goon? I swear the Liev Schrieber character is him.
I remember that one fateful day when Coach took me aside. I knew what was coming. "You don't have to tell me," I said. "I'm off the team, aren't I?"
"Well," said Coach, "you never were really ON the team. You made that uniform you're wearing out of rags and towels, and your helmet is a toy space helmet.
You show up at practice and then either steal the ball and make us chase you to get it back, or you try to tackle people at inappropriate times."
                  It was all
true what he was saying. And yet, I thought something is brewing inside the head of this Coach.
He sees something in me, some kind of raw talent that he can
mold. But that's when I felt the handcuffs go on.

This isn't about handing out participation medals. This is about the NHL trying to rig the vote and going cloak-and-dagger when the results didn't suit them. And when he doesn't go willingly, they bring his kids into the fray. Utterly heinous. Bettman needs to be slapped sideways, effing weasel that he is.

Same thing with Rory Fitzpatrick. In that case, they merely rigged the vote which no one can dispute since they hold all the ballots. They couldn't take that tack again or everyone would know that fan balloting has all the legitimacy of a WWF decision. Instead, they came up with this overt tactic. Nothing could be hidden and the NHL was faced with a PR nightmare. The backpedaling by the league was heard from here to Moscow and then Bettman greeting Scott at the game with that stupid smirk we have all come to loathe.

Good for Scott. He didn't deserve to be on the all-star team, but he sure didn't deserve to be treated like that.

It's an all star game. Who cares? He had fun, the players around him had fun, the fans loved it, and the NHL is rolling with it.

                          What's the problem exactly?

Hadn't you heard? Pussification. When a 6'8 guy with an engineering degree, marginal skill, and a fighter's cred gets to play in the all-star game with the league's ballerinas, it's the end of American machismo apparently. Somehow.

i just can't wait to logon to Facebook to read a story about an undefeated high school wrestler letting a wrestler with Down Syndrome pin him for the win!

that way... I can feel good about myself again.
