Probably not. Running really puts undue stress on the ankles, knees and low back.

Try low impact training like and elliptical or a bike.

So, we have done 2 days this week, and are going to do it again today.

We go to the clearwater memorial causeway and walk 4 miles. He adds a jog in here and there along the way.

His goal is to run the 5k turkey trot in 35 mins...

I up to 7k and running the last 1/2k. I leave after 7 so it is getting dark and I walked by a buck in the bush and it was snorting at me and then the coyotes were loud getting ready to hunt and the lightning all around me. It was a great last night to be out. But I am not planning to do much more running for now.

Running is healthy if it puts undue stress on any part of your body you're an old cripple.

You're an idiot if you think that running, especially on pavement and asphalt, doesn't impact your ankles, knees and low back. Over time, it will probably cause you problems.

Then again, you're Canadian so idiot is implied and redundant.

Running doesn't cause any of these problems.

Running is healthy for your over all well being.

There is PLENTY of evidence out there to support running, but I am sure you will find a way to dismiss them all.

I didn't say running wasn't good for your health or overall well being.

I said it has an impact on the joints because of the constant pounding. Over time it will cause problems for those joints, possibly arthritis and bursitis.

See, this is where you get things wrong all the time...you take a statement and project your limited viewpoint

For everything positive there are some negative consequences in almost all that you do. You have to ask yourself if those are risks you are willing to take. So, don't cry when you are 60 and you have ailments from running every day.

I would suggest a more varied cardio training approach, but since you think you know everything, I won't.

P.S. If you want to be seen as intelligent (which is your primary objective in using this board), at least be open to others opinions. I've been training and learning about physiology/kinesiology and training techniques since the middle '80's and it's obvious I know a little more than you, but in your quest to one up your betters and achieve your objective, you wind up making yourself look like an idiot.

    Evidence doesn't support this statement.

I couldn't say if it is or isn't but it's like saying that man doesn't influence the climate. How could we not with the unnatural rate of CO2 emissions caused by man. Same with running or walking. How could it not to an extent be harmful to muscles, tendons and joints. Gravity is a bitch.

It's also the stimulus for repair. And correlates with lower BMI. Being fat and sedentary is way worse for your joints than being fit and active.

There are plenty of ways to lower your BMI than pounding your legs into the pavement constantly. We were not talking about "fit and active" were talking about running everyday. Of course, running on dirt or sand is less impactful.

Look man, I did HIIT training way before it became a popular training modality. I would run the school track and wind sprint the straight aways….just two or three miles. I also did this first thing in the morning so my glycogen levels were very low. The same concept behind the Keto, Atkins and Fasting diet protocols. It was short and intense, intense being the operative word, because intensity of effort is the key to improvement. Also, doing an regular anaerobic routine that builds muscle raises your basil metabolic rate and therefore impacts your BMI which is why I advised Blondie to resistance train before.

At the end of the day, I would say if you have limited time swimming would be the best as far as cardio if you had to pick one, but maybe instead of just one, why not do many? Run, swim, ride the bike, use the elliptical. As long as you raise your heartrate to 85% max for thirty or 40 minutes per day, it's all good.

We are arguing a small point and it came up because ticat has problems running and I offered a solution. You avid runners took it as an attack, which it was not.

I didn't take anything as an "attack"

You are giving off false information.

Running does NOT have negative impact on your joints. It's the OPPOSITE.

Evidence supports that running is good for circulation, and reduces stress on the body as a WHOLE.

Telling people the opposite, as you did, is a lie.

    That's all I am saying.
