So unless he takes a massive discount, it's Buffalo or broke. Cost of living in Toronto is very high, like crazy amounts right now, versus Buffalo which is relatively inexpensive.
How will the guy ever survive on $10 million a year ....

Da***? How the hell does that roster equate to $69M? How do they scratch together that kind of cabbage to land Stamkos.

I don't think cost of living ever factors in for top free agents.

$12M though. That's pretty steep. With Buffalo's luck with free agents, he'll drop off to single digits in goals.
Lehner's history. He just doesn't know it yet.

Barring an injuries, he'd probably at least get us into the playoffs and potentially into the second round. I'm serious, this is a true leader and he will lead us.

They may buy out lupul. I also saw another site that had their current cap hit at 66 mil, but that including pending UFAs

They couldn't easily spring $11 Million on a bet, so if it's leafs or Sabres it's Sabres win.

Sabres insider told me team is the front runner for Stamkos and is prepared to offer him between 11-12 Mil a year. He was surprised himself. We'll see.

Along with a new RR contract, that would make Murray quite busy with other moves. Someone would have to go. Then again, I don't pretend to know the cap implications.

We have about $19 Million to play with, so there's room there and the annual cap will rise over the next several years making this a good looking contract for a true leader we've been lacking for ~10 years.

Re: Murray begins preliminary talks with Stamkos camp

that's good to hear that the rumors are that we are in the running for stamkos. I will love it if we get him, it will not be the end of the world if we don't get him. that contract is no joke and with the clot issue, that's a big red flag. I think we have centers, if we can get okposo and Vesey, we have more room to sign other guys. but the sabres have dead money in moulson and gionta that rolls off soon. so maybe not the worst thing. Ror and stamkos long term could make it hard to keep eichel and reinhart down the road, but I don't know how long their contracts run. ultimately, the sabres are going to have to keep all those excess picks nad keep a great pool of prospects churning or we will crumble under the weight of big contracts in a few years.

on GR this morning, they were talking about stuffing teams with offersheets, specifically teams that are up against the cap knowing that they will either have to bite the bullet and take a bad contract or let them walk after letting other FA get away. its an interesting strategy and it probably gets us younger players with more longevity than the FA market. and yes,you have to give up picks, but you start telling everyone that its win now mode. and as a fan, that's a real exciting time for your team.

While unlikely, and for good reason, if the sabres land stamkos, and have too much money tied up into a few players, you could explore trading ROR. I'd rather not, but if it came down to stamkos or him, I know who I'd rather have.

LOL, we have some time before that happens if we get lucky enough. One thing I wonder is can we build in a blood clot out in the contract ?? It's pre-existing so is that reasonable ?

If it rears its ugly head, put him on LTIR and the cap hit is gone.

With a player like that you shouldn't care. That's not Mario Williams. That's a real franchise player. One like Buffalo hasn't seen in some time. Scoring wise, ever.

Its hard not to.I would have loved him, but I don't want to lose players because of a huge contract. I was worried that much cap would cripple the team going forward, like Chicago. Granted, chicage has cups..
