5'10" 170 lbs is Patrick Kane.

Other excellent players without ideal size at their position:
    Adam Fox
    Cale Makar
    Brayden Point
    Brad Marchand
    Johnny Gaudreau
    Quinn Hughes
    and Debrincat was already mentioned.

Any team in the league would take all of those guys in an instant. Now obviously the golden egg is that speed and skill in a guy who is 6'4" but that isn't always possible. It has to be the right player and I do think they need to be faster than the average NHLer but guys who can play will always find a way into the league.

Goalie Craig Anderson decided to keep playing and signs another 1 year deal.

Adams says he's not necessarily done in net.

Sabres' Adams said just because they signed Anderson, it doesn't mean they're done in net

They should get another Goalie. UPL is still a big question mark, with all his injuries/surgeries/rehabs.

Oskari Laaksonen - D taken in 2017 (same draft as Mittelstadt & UPL). He amped up # of games in Rochester in year #2 there last season. He's got one more season there, then the Sabres decide what to do with him. May see some games with the big team next season?

    2017 Draft

Laaksonen drafted 10 picks in front of Jacob Bryson, but stayed in Europe for a few years. Probably why Bryson got a look with the Sabres first.

Laaksonen is under contract next season and is expected to return to the Amerks, where he will need to prove that he can correct his deficiencies.

Like I said, put on 20 lbs from 160 at 5'11". Now you have a size comp.

Sabres had a trade with Ottawa.

Matt Murray and 7th for the 16th. Murray would have been a cap dump for the sens.

    Murray exercised his NMC

If the fans in Buffalo have any smarts, they'll verbally ride Murray like a rented mule for the rest of his days in the NHL. You know DAMNED well the fans in Winnipeg would do it if they were in that position.

Besides, Darcy Kuemper just got on the FA market thanks to Colorado prying G Alexander Georgiev from the Rangers.

JATM would be better than a draft pick on a G.

Ummm. That is nice of you to say, but....

In other news. sukie was complaining to me about the Swede love the Sabres are showing. I told him other teams have been successful with Swedes. Here's one rewarded coming off a 42-42-84 point season:

Filip Forsberg stays with Predators on 8-year, $68 million contract

    Swedes aren't so bad.

    Re: Sabres news and notes

The Sabres still need a goalie. How about Cam Talbot? Apparently not happy that Fleury is getting paid more than he is in Minnesota. How about the Sabres trade the rights to Portillo, a 2023 pick for Talbot and a lesser pick?

    https://nhl.nbcsports.com/2022/07/10...eking-goalies/

Talbot may want a raise and not a trade
Michael Russo: There are some who took Cam Talbot‘s agents’ quotes as he wants to be traded. From team sources, get the impression that he’d like an extension and a raise. He’s at $3 million this year and Fleury is at $3.5 million.
    And if no raise comes?

    For their career....

    Murray: 246 GP, 132-78-22 with a .911 save %.
    Kuemper: 299 GP, 143-95-36 with a .918 save %. And 1 Stanley Cup.

    Murray is 28, Kuemper 32.

It should be noted that Washington is said to be "extremely interested' in Kuemper. TheHockeyWriters.com did include Buffalo in a list of free agent options, but said the Sabres were the least likely destination(Washington, Toronto and Edmonton were higher ranked).

Welp... Murray to Toronto is official. Senators had to keep 25% of his salary and kick in two picks to get Toronto to bite. But Toronto, what are you thinking?

Tomorrow starts FA and there's an unusual number of good UFA's available and tons more talent via trade or offer sheet.

I doubt Buffalo is on anyones radar but I hope to be surprised.

Sabres are linked to JVR from the flyers. Flyers would add a sweetner to the deal.

Always liked him. Very good player. If he agreed to play bottom 6, I'd love that signing. Don't want to see him take away minutes from youngsters, but would love to see him play with some of them.
