Actually that honor goes to the 1946 - 1970 Redskins and 1949-1973 Cardinals who are tied for longest NFL post season drought ever at 25 years. In third place are the Steelers from 1948-1971 who went 24 years without a playoff spot. In fourth are the Saints who missed the playoffs their first twenty seasons from 1967 to 1986. With our current management in place, surpassing these teams to establish unmatched levels of futility in the NFL is possible, but right now we have to surpass the 1960-76 Broncos, 1961-1977 Iggles, and 1964-1980 Giants. Baby steps gentlemen, baby steps.

Oh well, hopefully we can be like the Pittsburgh Steelers. Yes, they were epically bad, but then in the late sixties and early seventies they started drafting well, started stockpiling players, and got three straight very good coaches, Noll, Cowher, and Tomlin. They have from time to time had down years but they have almost always been at least competitive.

I liven in PGH 1978 to 1990. Noll had those 2 or 3 great drafts. The local knock against him (if it's possible to really knock a coach with 4 SB wins) was that he kept his vets on the field constantly - IIRC, back-up QB got vested in his NFL pension before he ever took a snap.

I do believe that PGH is one of the "darling" franchises. I've watched them for years - in PGH and now in CIN. They get away with murder, year after year. YMMV.
