Hecht had a few really good years offensively.

Anyways, Kane should be beyond 20/20 but man, when he's engaged, you can see he's a difference maker. He doesn't play defense like Hecht, but he plays very physical which is good.

with the exception of that oiler late goal, kane tends to not score when you need him to the most. he usually kind of piles on when the sabres are up already. he misses a lot of breakaways for being a goal scorer. I don't think of him as a guy you throw on the ice when you let a goal in and what a goal back. but I think he plays high energy all the time. he doesn't slack on his shifts. and to some extent, if you had another 2-3 of his types who are willing to bang and get on top of the guy with the puck in a hurry, that would create a couple more goal scorers on the team.

Pathetic effort against the Caps. Maybe we will be better when Eichel gets back. Oh wait- he played? You wouldn't know by watching the game.

    Oh, and **** the Caps.

Nov. 25: Capitals beat Sabres 3-1

Dec 5: Capitals beat Sabres 3-2 (OT)

Dec 9: Capitals beat Sabres 4-1

Thank goodness the Sabres are done with the Capitals for the season.

I hate Gionta. Get rid of him. Please.

    Gionta on the Power Play:

"We're trying to figure it out, we're trying to get a little more aggressive, stop sitting back so much"
Trying to figure it out? Really? Here you go...

SHOOT THE PUCK. GO GET THE REBOUNDS.

So sick of watching this team pass around the box for 2 minutes without shooting. They did this when Ruff was here too.

Shoot low, get rebounds. Get to the net, look for tips and screens. Move the puck, get Eichel open for his shot.

And while I love RISTO, get a quarterback for the PP.

Eight points in seven games for Eichel. Needs more consistency. But the guy is legit. He's A Star. Enjoy it. The sabres will build around him

The Kings game was probably the most exciting game to watch this year. It was nice that being down 2 early wasn't the death sentence that it usually is.

Am I the only one not feeling the Carrier love? He got promoted to the top line and the announcers can't say enough good things about him, and the effort is there. I'm just not seeing the production.

carrier is young enough that simply seeing the effort is excellent. this is the most fun I've had as a buffalo sports fan since maybe the last time the sabres made the playoffs. the bar is so low. but awesome that they poured on 4 goals.

Kane also seems to be digging himself out of his bad play. The team is close if they can get rid of waste of space players and upgrade the defense. Man I can't wait for guhle...

watching this team makes me appreciate how well coached this team was under Lindy Ruff for 15 years.
My wife told me that if I had a dollar for every girl who found me unattractive, girls would find me VERY attractive.

    MY WIFE SAID THAT!!!

Ruff was a heck of a coach and I wish we had him back. I really do.

My only complaint about Ruff was that he could never get the PP going, even when we had a ton of offensive talent. Other than that, I thought he was a great coach and most of the problems were Reiger's fault.

The only year the power play was great was the year they were within a period of the SCF in 06

Re: 2016-2017 Season Long Game Day Thread

I don't know why we would be negative on bylsma. he kept an ahl roster at .500 without his top 2 centers. and the second they were back they were 6-2-1 or something like that.

the real test are the games from Friday through new year. if they want to be in this thing, they have to beat the teams slightly ahead of them in regulation and pick up ground. if they are losing OT games and squandering more points, then it's over. but I'd like to see how the team does over the year as its health improves.

it is possible that the early injuries helped a lot of people get some experience and the healthy roster later in year with substitution with young game experienced players may be a huge help come march and april. but it also may not and we may be at a point of thinking about a change.

but I think the plan was a 2-3 year plan and it seems to be going ok when you factor in injuries and you consider they are still in this thing.
