Time for Eichel to step up

This entire organization went into the crapper for one player.

That player turned out to be Jack Eichel. Two years later, the team is floundering not only into obscurity... but into position to have a legit shot at the top pick in the next draft.

I fully realize Jack is a 20 year old kid, but it's time for Jack to start carrying the burden of being "the man" in Buffalo. That ownership is more than throwing a temper tantrum in a post game lockeroom. Beginning next year, he needs to wear the C. This year, he needs to start taking over with how he performs on ice.

As he so "poignantly" bellowed leading up to the draft... "Buffalo! I'm coming for you!"

    Well Jack... you're here.

    Time to own it!

He hasn't been as dominant As Id like this year but the Sabres are nowhere near being the worst team in the NHL

Re: Time for Eichel to step up

I read earlier this year that the injury will hinder Jack for the rest of the season and he won't be himself. It was a prediction due to the type of injury, but it seems about right. Some nights, he has it, others he doesnt.

Let them dream of the Sabres getting above .500, we touched it ~once this season.

Jack with two today. Not bad. He's on pace for over 60 points in a full season, which would be an Improvement over last year, which i feel is at least good

the kid is so strong. The EN goal was all about him not being able to be taken off the puck.

    And 16 points above last.

Certainly they are below where they should be, but they aren't close to last

I'm not buying that and I bet Eichel wouldn't either.

And Eichel is doing just fine Coastal. I was hoping he'd approach 40 goals this year and at his .45 gpg he would be at 37 goals over 81 games. He does need to get more consistent in the second half and I agree he needs to be wearing the C next season.

Not that I'm happy with the team at this point... But... They've been above .500 several times this season. Let's not start making **** up.

Eichel is not this teams problems. The kid has talent. He's getting better at his own rate. The GM has to put better talent around him and go get a real goaltender. These two are not the answer.

Who should be the leader on this team?

    O'Reilly.

You cannot expect a rookie to step in and do that type of thing day one.

Yeah, well then I disagree with you. It's not time for him to usurp leadership of the team yet. Let him develop some more. Stop being an impatient fan who wants instant gratification. You know better. It takes some time. More than he's had. And he doesn't have much of a team around him yet to fully shine. So he's got some developing to do. And the GM has a team to finish building. He's only about halfway there - depending upon what you think of Ennis' future IMO.

Not to mention the Leafs and Austin Matthews.
