All: The new Billszone site with the updated software is scheduled to be turned on Tuesday, May 21, 2024. The company that built it, Dynascale, estimates a FOUR HOUR shut down, from 8pm Pacific, (5pm Eastern) while they get it up and running. Nobody will be able to post in any forum until they are done. Afterwards, you may need to do a web search for the site, as old links will not work, because the site is getting a new IP address. Please be patient. If there are bugs, we will tackle them one at a time. Remember the goal is to be up and running with no glitches by camp. Doing this now assures us of that, because it gives us all summer to get our ducks in a row. Thank you!
How is signing Kirk Cousins as a free agent even an option and why isn't it what everyone voted for? We have a better chance at landing Romo, and we all know that's not happening.
I'd love (and voted for) Cousins... But how realistic is that? Would still want Chad Kelly in the 3rd round
I'd be OK drafting Deshaun Watson at 10. But I'd also be OK trading down a couple times to pick 2 or 3 additional 2nd and 3rd rounders (we have 25 roster spots to fill).
So... I guess I'd go bridge QB and draft Chad Kelly.
Not sure I post this in this thread but we can't trade Tyrod? I gotta believe we can trade this guy, and maybe for a 1st rounder based on some of the desperation out there.

In order to trade him, we have to pick up his option, at which point we'd have about $16MM in dead cap after we traded him. No thanks, just cut ties with him now. What a stupid contract we offered him.
Let Tie walk
Sign Manuel to a one year vet min deal
Draft Trubisky at 10
start whoever looks best of Manuel, Jones and Trub with Trub hopefully the QB of the future
Kirk Cousins is the easy choice. That said, he is unlikely to be available and the Bills have mismanaged their cap space so signing him as a free agent is unrealistic

Considering we are restricted to one choice, the 'top, #1 option' is pretty easy---draft a QB. I still think Kelly is the best QB in this draft so that would be my wish.
Adding to the above...we still need to bring in a vet FA. I like McCarron, but am loathe to give up picks for him, and he isn't coming for free. Romo isn't coming, and Cousins is too much risk for the money. I'd be OK bringing in Foles or even Cutler, but only if he gets released by Chicago. I've bounced from side to side on Tyrod, and to be honest don't care if he's re-signed or not. If he is, OK...Taylor, FA, draft pick, Jones and UDFA come to camp. If he isn't, FA, another FA, draft pick, Jones and UDFA is fine by me.

Well, distastefully I went with least worse Taylor.
My reasoning :
-can't start a rookie with two WR coaches in charge of QB's, just can't. Signing Hoyer or Schaub will get them hurt, and you end up starting an unprepared rookie being taught by WR coaches.
-we can't afford to spend picks on a trade, we just can't imho, we don't have enough of them already.
-I don't think Glennon or Fitzpatrick are more than backups.
-I wouldn't want to get stuck committing to Cousins (pricey) or Foles (not so pricey but probably wanting a chance to become pricey), who I don't think are all that anyway.
That leaves me unhappily stuck with Taylor, an inadequate passer who at least won't be catastrophic to continue the endless middlin' tradition.
Keeping him tells the rest of the NFL " We have zero interest in a passing game "...when the NFL is ALL about the passing game.
Then we finish 2-3 games out of the playoff spot again and blame the kicker. The definition of insanity.
You have to at least try to get a passing game going.
It's not hard to convince me, you're right. Ok, someone else. Whoever. I have no passion for this debate because I can't see it ending well in any case.
Has to be an FA then, don't spend picks or send a developmental guy out there with WR QB coaches. That leaves the brittle Hoyer, the overpriced Cousins, the aging Schaub or the underwhelming Glennon/Foles.
For the DeShaun Watson fans, here is a scouting report I read: Weaknesses: Can be inaccurate
Poor ball placement
Ball security; throws too many interceptions
Field vision
Working through progressions
Will need to learn working under center
Will need to learn working a NFL huddle
Will need to improve footwork
Prone to throwing too high
Can stare down his primary read
Needs development for a pro-style offense
College offense inflated his stats
College offense ran lot of plays he won't run in the NFL AKA -- A RECIPE FOR DISASTER
