Cap savings if we let Tyrod walk after 2017?

Spotrac says no dead cap. We'd get the full 16.78 mill in cap savings if he was cut prior to the 3rd league day of 2018.

That would mean it's basically a pay as you go contract. That makes it even more attractive for the Bills IMO. They can keep him this year and see how it works out under the new staff and schemes. My personal belief is that he was misused under Rex. I want a more spread offense and want to see what Tyrod does in that scheme.

And if we chose to, we can then let him go in 2018 and get back 16.78 mill to go shopping with.

Yeah that has to be wrong. Not only would the remainder of his original signing bonus get rolled up and in, so would the remainder of the option bonus that kicks in this year if they retain him under the current terms. The dead cap next year would be huge. spotrac probably hasn't filled in those blanks yet on the spreadsheet because no determination has been made, because it will be north of $14mil.

The $27.5 million figure for 2017 comes from the combination of a $12 million base salary in and a $15.5 million signing bonus, which, on the accounting books gets prorated over the life of the contract.

The $30.75 million in guarantees figure is not just in 2017. The added $3.25 million to get from $27.5 to $30.75 million is the portion of Tyrod’s 2018 base salary of $13 million salary in 2018 that would become guaranteed if the Bills pick up his option.

If the last paragraph seems confusing :

his 2017 base salary of $12 million and $3.25 million of his 2018 base salary due on the third day of the 2017 season (March 11th).
