Bills work out Patrick Mahomes with team owner present

Buffalo Bills owner Terry Pegula made it three quarterbacks in three days on Monday. After witnessing private workouts by DeShone Kizer on Saturday and Mitchell Trubisky on Sunday, Pegula and a Bills contingent, including head coach Sean McDermott, took in a private workout by Patrick Mahomes of Texas Tech, according to the Houston Chronicle. The Bills also scheduled Pitt QB Nathan Peterman for a pre-draft visit.

Pegula's presence certainly lends weight to the idea that the Bills are serious about finding a young quarterback to develop behind starter Tyrod Taylor. The club drafted Cardale Jones out of Ohio State in the fourth round last year. Jones saw plenty of action in the preseason, but threw only 11 regular-season passes, all in the team's season finale.

The Bills hold the No. 10 overall pick of the draft, and select again at No. 44 overall in the second round.
Mahomes has been a popular subject of pre-draft visits and workouts for NFL clubs, scheduling 18 teams for one or the other. He visited the Cleveland Browns on Friday, and is also known to have worked out for the Cardinals, Chargers, Browns, Jets and Saints.

Buffalo Bills owner Terry Pegula was part of a team contingent that conducted a private workout with QB Patrick Mahomes on Monday, according to a report.

Sigh. What in the blue hell does Pegula know about scouting Quarterbacks? I really hope he has zero say in the draft, but I somehow doubt that.

When Jerry Jones took over as owner for the Cowboys, he probably new squat, but now, acting as GM, he's built a pretty good team. I don't want Pegula making football positions, but I don't mind him taking an interest and learning the game on the inside.
I've made up my mind. Don't confuse me with the facts.

If there was one QB that I would want it would be Mahomes. I just dont think us taking a QB this year is worth it, that is why I have us taking Kelly in the 6th round.

If I spent over a billion dollars on something I sure the hell would be involved in all decisions on running it.

It's worked well for the Sabres for the past 6 years, lots of lottery chances.

It's not really about winning, winning is secondary, it's about making money.

If the Bills/Sabres happen to luck into some star players along the way that turn them into winners, that's great, even more money to be made.

I'm wondering (and this is pure speculation) if the recent success is more because of his son Stephen

The most interesting thing about this is the name that wasn't mentioned as being present at the workouts.

I was thinking the same thing and it concerns me.

The absence has been noticed and makes me wonder if other three workouts are a smokescreen for the real guy they want.

I don't care what anybody says, I do not see a happy NFL career for Deshaun Watson.

Wayyyyyy too many similarities to our most recent busts at the position.

                      This.

4/8/17: I surveyed teams around the league to see where their initial draft grades were for Watson. Two playoff teams told me they had third-round grades on Watson. One said it was on the low end as a third- to fourth-rounder. Another playoff team told Walt that they had a third-round grade on Watson. Two other teams said they had second-round grades on Watson. However, a number of team sources think that Watson would still be a first-round quarterback, and similar to Teddy Bridgewater a team could trade back into the first round because of the dire need at the position across the NFL. Watson benefits from comparisons to Dak Prescott and also benefits from coaches getting involved in the draft process during the spring in draft meetings. Watson threw the ball well at the combine and did well in the team interviews - as expected.

Pegula is one dumb bastard when it comes to pro sports ownership.

Go "dig another hole" you idiot.

If I was a billionaire with an NFL team I'd be flying around in my private jet to player's work-outs too. I might do more listening and watching then talking, and not get involved in the scouting process, but I'd be there.

I agree. Why wouldn't he be trying to learn as much as he could. He owns the team.

Now if he comes out and tells us he alone is making all the draft decisions. That would be a problem.

                              He isn't.

He ID's the one guy who shares his views in the strongest sense and grants that person the supreme power.

With the Sabres , it's Murray and the jury is still out on that but at least he gives him a chance to sink or swim.

And now McDermott has obviously been granted that status with the Bills and he rides along to learn.

I'm sure the position of integrity and accountability that McDermott preaches plays well with Penn St alum Pegula, who watched that football program experience the worst scandal ever. It also tells me he stopped listening to marketing jackass Brandon, who pushed Ryan on him.

This draft will have McDermott as the final voice...little question. Time will tell if it works but I hate group decisions. They never work. Listen to the most balanced guy in the room that does his detective work.
