    It has been rumored since March that the Buffalo Sabres were expected to sign Kontinental Hockey League defenseman Viktor Antipin once his season in Russia had come to a close.

    On Tuesday, KHL insider Aivis Kalnins reported that the Sabres and Antipin have talked recently, and the feeling is that the two sides will get a deal done after the IIHF World Championship concludes on May 21.

    It is believed that former Sabres general manager Tim Murray has wanted Antipin to come play in North America ever since his days with the Ottawa Senators organization. Even with Murray no longer in the picture in Buffalo, Kalnins' report suggests that Antipin is still likely to join the Sabres organization.

    Normally, staying in the US over Russia would be a huge motivating factor, but right now, there are only 3 heads of state crazier than Putin and we've got one of them...

    Sabres officially sign Antipin

    After months of rumors and speculations, the Buffalo Sabres have officially signed Russian defenseman Victor Antipin.

    Antipin, 24, signs a one-year entry-level contract with the Sabres after spending the past five seasons playing with Metallurg Magnitogorsk in the Kontinental Hockey League.

    Smallish defenseman, but quick and mobile with offensive skills. Seems like an upgrade on D, and likely a top 4 guy.
    Should have known, way back in 1960 when we drafted Richie Lucas Number 1, that this would be a long, hard ride. But who could have known it would be THIS bad?
