Have we seen the last of Cindy...oops I meant Sidney Crosby?

The Pittsburgh star is out for Wednesday's Game 4 while recovering from yet another concussion, this one coming from being cross-checked in the head by Capitals defenseman Matt Niskanen in the first period of Washington's 3-2 overtime victory on Monday night.
Penguins coach Mike Sullivan said Crosby will be evaluated on a daily basis going forward. There is no timetable for the two-time MVP's return.

Niskanen's stick caught Crosby flush across the right side of the head and the defenseman kept his hands on Crosby as the star fell to the ice before skating away. Crosby was on the ice for several minutes before slowly making his way to the dressing room under his own power. Niskanen received a five-minute major and a game misconduct.

I used to make fun of Cindy. Then I actually watched him play.

He's the best player in the game.

He gets away with murder and the refs call penalties on anyone that breathes on him. Makes it a lot easier.

Put more goals in the net and it's not an issue.

Anythkng less than that that sounds like you're whining.

Well that has nothing to do with the reality that other players get suspended for what Crosby did to ROR and he doesn't even get a 2 min minor.

Good, I really really really could care less how good Crosby is. He's no different than Sean Avery or Kaleta. He has done so much damage to people in the NHL doing cheap shots that anything short of a coma is justified

You guys act like there has never been the Jordan rules. The game thrives because Crosby scores not because he is in the box. I also saw Malkin crush Blake Wheeler when he didn't have the puck and he got nothing. When Eichel starts playing like these guys, he will get the same treatment. It has existed forever in every sport.

Your theory has several holes. First, everyone outside of the Pittsburgh TV market despises that prima Donna *******. Yeah, his highlight reel goals impresses non-hockey fans during Sportccenter, but the people who actually spend money on the game understand what is really happening.

Second, Eichel will never get the Crosby treatment cuz he plays for Buffalo. It's the city that is a top 3 playoff market even the Sabres don't make it. It's the city that averaged 500 less than a sellout when the Sabres were the worst team in the league. Pittsburgh almost lost their team before Lemieux stepped in and the league rigged it so they got Cindy and Malkin. Sabres fans are a given for the league- Penguins fans, not so much. Even Ovechkin in the fickle D.C. market has to face suspensions. Crosby's been given a blank check on an unprecedented level.

The league rigged it? Come on. Granted I don't see as many Penguin's games being that he plays in the East but you make it sound like he is going Gordie Howe on everyone. With all this slashing and hurting other players, how does he have time to score? I will never say that he doesn't get away with stuff, all the stars do, but to say it is unprecedented isn't accurate. Ask Leafs fans about Gretzky's high stick in the playoffs. It happens in hockey, basketball, football and probably soccer.

He speared ROR in the balls and didn't even get a 2 min minor while other guys get suspended for the same thing. He two-hand slashed Methot and mangled his finger to the point where the bone was exposed- again, nothing.

And that was just a 2 week period in March.

He gets away with murder and anyone who gets near him gets whistled. Stars being treated differently is nothing new, but this level of it is absurd.

Op I'm sorry to inform you but in the hockey world the sabres are a top 10 market. We are basically the Chiefs of the hockey world so as soon as we start producing, we will get national coverage. Back in the early 2000s we would be on sports center, we would be on big televised stations. In the hockey world we are a top market

I don't feel bad for him. He dishes it out he's gotta expect cheap shots coming back at him.

Re: Have we seen the last of Cindy...oops I meant Sidney Crosby?

The Pittsburgh Penguins captain was out all of five days — and just one game — with his most recent as he skated more than 19 minutes in a 4-2 loss to the Washington Capitals in Game 5 of their Eastern Conference Semifinal series at Verizon Center on Saturday night.

the NHL’s concussion protocol states “there is no mandatory period of time that a player must be withheld from play following a concussion.” Crosby took part in a full-contact practice on Friday and was was cleared to play Saturday.

“The guideline is to treat every concussion on its own merits,” Chris Nowinski, executive director of the Concussion Legacy Foundation, told USA TODAY Sports. “Each one is different. It’s not impossible to pass the protocol within five days. That doesn’t mean it’s a great idea. It doesn’t mean this isn’t a calculated risk.”

The NHL’s protocol mandates three things that have to happen before a concussed player is allowed to return:

    • There is complete recovery of concussion-related symptoms at rest.
    • There is no emergence of concussion-related symptoms at exertion levels required for competitive play.
    • The player has been judged by the team physician to have returned to his neurocognitive baseline test levels following an evaluation by the club’s consulting neuropsychologist.

Nowinski said the Penguins and the NHL — which is in the midst of a class-action concussion lawsuit filed by former players — would have faced far more had Crosby been concussed again.
“If he took a bump to the head and gets knocked unconscious, the decision to allow him to play would be scrutinized for ages,” Nowinski said.
