McDermott Suggests That Nate Peterman Could Be The Starting QB

Vic Carucci asked McDermott the question about changing the starting QB after Peterman's performance.

Anyone else listen to that in the post game press conference?

McDermott did NOT say that Tyrod Taylor would be the starting QB Week 1.

Instead of giving Taylor the benefit of the doubt, he talked about, "competition."

I think it's official after that press conference.

The Bills have a QB competition.

If you look throughout the threads, you'll find one that mentions Peterman being the stuff. Best in a long time, it shows on the field.

I hope Peterman gets a shot. Tyrod is not the answer.

Well, it's good that he only scrambled twice.

Training camp is such a joke these days. The PS games are the functional replacement.

BUF should put him in from the 1st snap in the next PS game to the last. TT has his contract, Yates is gone.

    Giive this guy the snaps....

For a rookie, Peterman is beyond impressive.

He's better than Tyrod Taylor. Anticipation....the biggest difference.

His throws are made in 2 seconds or less.

Not a bad thing to have a backup at slot receiver, ask Tom Brady.

I think Peterman should get 1st string reps next game.

Re: McDermott Suggests That Nate Peterman Could Be The Starting QB

I'm ok with Peterman developing at his pace, which he is, and he doesn't look like a starter yet, though I think he's progressing. Let the preseason play out. Let him learn and grow at his pace, seems to be working fine.

McDermott will be ok with Peterman "encouraging" Tyrod, no problem there, but see who starts week one, and unless it gets catastrophic, let it go as it does. For once, this doesn't look like a bad thing.

It's way too easy after all these years to try and jump ahead, and no point to it if it's working as it's supposed to, which it seems to be.

You have to give Tyrod next week's start, but if he looks as dreadful as he did today then the controversy certainly will heat up.

Re: McDermott Suggests That Nate Peterman Could Be The Starting QB

I'll deal with the rookie mistakes. He's better than Tyrod as a rookie. He can read a defense already and he can pass the receiver open. Has such a better head on his shoulders. They know Tyrod sucks. So play Peterman this year and see if he could be a starter in this league. They know they're going to suck anyway. If he doesn't end up being starting caliber by seasons end, then they know they have to draft Sam Darnold or someone with similar talent in the college ranks. They have the ammo to move to get Darnold but will the worst team except it a trade?

I strongly believe in ruining a QB that starts early. And especially if your OLine sucks.
I believe that Dak Prescott with the Houston Texans O Line of David Carr back in the days would have been ruined. Startung an inxperienced AB behind a bad OLine will ruin him. At least keep Peterman on the bench until after the bye. Especially if Tyrod helps us lose games.

Tyrod needs to continue to start if for no other reason than to get the O-line figured out so Peterman isn't scarred for life. I originally thought Tyrod should start until mathematically eliminated but that will technically take longer than it should.

You know, I really wouldn't mind it they decided starting Peterman was the right thing to do.

At least there are interesting things to follow...

Don't rush it. Let it play out. 'Giving it' to someone too early will create division and controversy. Letting them earn it fosters belief, confidence, and 'team'.

I would not rush him but he will be starting at some point this season. I don't have any doubt about that.

Re: McDermott Suggests That Nate Peterman Could Be The Starting QB

Brandon Beane can do his best Russ Brandon impression and keep blowing smoke up our asses that this is not a tank job.

But based on the lack of effort or discipline I saw last night, this is a team that is acutely aware the tank job is on.

    Let the rebuild begin.

Also, don't ruin Nate Peterman. Our line can't pass protect and our WRs are ****ing awful. What good could possibly come of allowing him to circle the drain with the rest of this team?

There's something to be said for this view.

Currently, Peterman is outplaying Tyrod. And it's not even close.

Keeping Tyrod as the starter helps our draft position, helps protect a rookie QB from playing behind a surprisingly porous OL, and gives Peterman the opportunity to convince the team that, when he does become the starter, it's based on more than just a couple preseason games/potential fluke.

Regardless of what Peterman does this season, the plan should be to use our first draft pick on a QB. Tanking the season is not a terrible way of getting the right draft pick for the job. Not a terrible way at all. And if Tyrod can help us tank . . .

I fully agree. I can't really see a scenario where Peterman conclusively proves he's a franchise QB this season. If I'm the GM I'm stacking my hand on young QBs, cause the only way this franchise finally moves forward is with a viable long term solution at QB.

If you end up with two good ones, there's always going to be someone willing to trade you back a 1st or 2nd round pick. Or you just keep two good ones.
Wake up, brush your teeth, and get ready for a day of hating the Dolphins. Or the Pats? How to choose?
