    Re: QB Watch Thread

In a matchup of two of the biggest Small School QB prospects, Sam Houston State's Jeremiah Briscoe out dueled Richmond's Kyle Lauletta 48-34. Both teams were ranked preseason Top 10 and Briscoe is considered a favorite for the Walter Payton Award (FCS version of Heisman).

    Briscoe - 20 of 37, 411 yards, 4 TD, 1 INT, 3 Carries, 29 Yards, 1 TD
    Lauletta - 36 of 56, 546 yards, 5 TD, 2 INT

Most small school prospects are undersized which is why they don't get recruited by larger schools, but both of these kids are 6'3 and over 215 lbs.

True. I worry about college systems vs college systems though too nowadays along with the engineered schedules and small school quality.

Just an aside, but one of the best football games I ever watched was the 2010 GMAC bowl, Central Michigan (Lefevour) vs. Troy (Levi Brown). I was delighted the Bills grabbed Levi. Of course, it meant nothing in the long run.

Not saying small school guys can't be developed, sort of makes sense they could be....but the NFL has become so impatient for immediate results, very few teams even have real QB coaches to work with QB's to improve their game. It's become a short term process that makes the pool even smaller. The college game only cares about what works there, and players with potential get chewed up in the middle.

        Re: QB Watch Thread

        Week 2 Games:
Max Browne (18) and Trace McSorley (19) - Pitt v. Penn State
Luke Falk (18) v. Billy Rypien (19) - Washington State v. Boise State
        Baker Mayfield (18) v. JT Barrett (18) - Oklahoma v. Ohio State
        Austin Allen (18) v. Kenny Hill (18) - Arkansas v. TCU
        Jarret Stidham (20) v. Kelly Bryant (19) - Auburn v. Clemson
Brandon Wimbush (20) - Notre Dame v. UGA
        Sam Darnold (20) v. Keller Chryst (19) - USC v. Stanford

Lots and lots of good games to watch tomorrow, it's hard to pick a top one.

I think I'd lean USC v. Stanford just because Darnold is the higher prospect, but Auburn v. Clemson and Oklahoma v. Ohio State are right there.

You want to see a bounce back game from Darnold where he shows good command of the offense and makes good decisions with the football. Stanford's defense is always tough though so it should be a good challenge for him. Both Bryant (Clemson) and Stidham (Auburn) looked good in Week 1 but this is the real test for both guys. Clemson's DL may be the 2nd best in the country behind Ohio State. For the Bucks matchup v. Oklahoma I don't really consider Barrett a legit QB prospect but I want to see how Mayfield handles the Bucks DL pressure.

I may stand alone but Lamar Jackson has improved his pocket passing ability a ton, in addition to his obvious athletic ability. Profiling him as a black athlete playing QB no longer works.

His only downfall these days is trying to do too much early in games when his D gives up an early score. Coaching can solve that but he does settle down. That strike where he avoids the North Carolina rush and then flicks the ball effortlessly to hit his WR perfectly in stride is outstanding. Many great throws from the pocket.

He's in the early lead for the Heisman again.

Jackson has definitely improved throwing the ball from last year. He also has filled out his body and gotten bigger. If he doesn't make it at qb he would be a hell of a wr.

To me Darnold is the clear top qb right now. He looked good last night.
I wasn't impressed with Falk at all. Don't like his arm or physical makeup. I don't see it with him, at least so far. With Allen you can see all the traits last week even though he didn't play well. You can see the upside with Allen at least.

                  Max Browne (18) - 19 of 32, 138 yards, 2 INT
                  Trace McSorley (19) - 15 of 28, 164 yards, 3 TD, 1 INT
                  Luke Falk (18) - 24 of 34, 193 yards, 1 INT
                  Billy Rypien (19) - 7 or 8, 76 yards
                  Baker Mayfield (18) - 27 of 35, 386 yards, 3 TD
                  JT Barrett (18) - 19 of 35, 183 yards, 1 INT, 18 rushes, 66 yards
                  Austin Allen (18) - 9 of 23, 138 yards, 1 TD
                  Kenny Hill (18) - 21 of 31, 166 yards, 1 INT
                  Jarret Stidham (20) - 13 of 24, 79 yards
                  Kelly Bryant (19) - 19 of 29, 181 yards, 19 rushes, 59 yards, 2 TD
                  Brandon Wimbush (20) - 19 of 39, 211 yards, 16 carries, 1 yard
                  Sam Darnold (20) - 21 of 26, 316 yards, 4 TD, 2 INT
                  Keller Chryst (19) - 15 of 28, 172 yards, 2 TD

Darnold had by far the best day and he did so against one of the top defenses in the country. His 2 INT's are worrisome because it's showing a trend. He threw 9 last year and 4 already this year. He needs to make better decisions with the football.

Jackson will definitely be on the watch list this week as the Cardinals take on Clemson.
